Do you remember me?
I am the black of night, the shadows that creep out of hiding when the sun ceases to shine. I am the blackout of your childhood in which you could not sleep, for fear the darkness would swallow you whole. I am the monster hidden away in your closet, and the hand that grabs you from under the bed -- the one your parents can't see. They can't protect you from me.
I am your worst nightmares leaking out into reality.
I am fear.
And I can assure you, I do exist.
...
We never really knew each other, you and I. Our relationship has been one-sided, and I have enjoyed it. But now, you have seen me.
I am the warm sunlight that filters in through your window to wake you from your nightmares. I am the one that safeguards your soul so that you do not slip into these black dreams. I am the candle that lit up the darkness of the house when your other lights would not work, the moonlight that keeps the darkness from taking over the land.
I am the fantasy world of your preferred dreams, the wide imagination that opens up to you as you drift to sleep.
I am imagination.
I'm here to protect.
"Oh, the childhood friend; imagination, dreams, light, and love. You shall fall to me -- fear stems from the imagination, see? You cause my fear to gain power with your broken gift~"
"I will admit that imagination can create fear, but it can also create bravery. Light cannot be smothered by darkness, as a light will always light up the darkest of places."
"I can see you have not thought this over much. Bravery comes from overcoming fear -- you do no good for the children; my power will make them stronger."
"I give the children hope when the fear is overwhelming... I give them whole worlds they can escape to, if they wish."
"You let them run away. You give them the chance to escape reality and thus let themselves rot in a self-induced spiral of depression and false ideas, believing they can simply remain in this world."
"That's not true."
"Your power is useless here. Let me end it."
"Please..."

To the end, what will you believe in? I can say it'll be different than what goes on in my mind~.
