SCAVENGER HUNT: THE U.S. CONSTITUTION

1. List three key differences between the Articles of Confederation and the Constitution.
1) Legislature:
Articles: Unicameral (congress)
Constitution: Bicameral (Neo-Congress)
2)Appointment of Members:
Articles: All are appointed by State Legislatures
Constitution: Represenitives elected by ‘popular vote and Senators are appointed by State Legislators.
3) Congressional Pay:
Articles: Paid by State
Constitution: Paid by Federal Government
2. Which state did not send deputies to the Constitutional Convention?
Rhode Island and Providence Plantations , did not send Deputies to the Convention.
3. From what class of society were the members of the Constitutional Convention drawn?
Drawn from the wealthy, educated, social society of well to do white males.
4. Who was called the “Father of the Constitution?”
James Madison is well known for being, the Father of the Constitution.
5. What party names were given to those who favored ratification and to those who opposed it?
The Federalists and The Anti-Federalists.
6. Name the three individuals who authored the Federalist Papers.
John Jay, James Madison, and Alexander Hamiliton.
7. In ratifying the Constitution, did the people vote directly?
No.
8. The vote of how many states was necessary to ratify the Constitution?
3/4ths States are necessary
9. What does the Supremacy Clause in the Constitution declare?
That the Constitution and the laws and treaties of the United States are the Supreme Law of the land, taking precedence over State Laws and Constitutions.
10. How many of the 55 delegates at the Constitutional Convention owned slaves?
25 Delegates owned Slaves.
What was the 3/5 compromise? The Compromise was a compromise between the southern and northern states reached during the Philadelphia Convention, in 1787 in which 3/5ths of the enumerated population of slaves would be counted for representation purposes regarding both the distribution of the taxes and the appointment of members of the United States House of the Representatives.
What did the Constitution say about the Atlantic Slave trade?
The Constitution prohibited Congress from Outlawing the Atlantic Slave Trade.

You must be at least 25years of age, they must have been a member of the United States of America for at least seven years, and you must be an inhabitant of the state that you are elected.
14. Do the first ten amendments (the Bill of Rights) bind the States?
The States created The Bill of Rights to limit Federal Government.
15. What protection is given to a person accused of crime under the jurisdiction of the United States?
The 5th Amendment protects US Citizens.
16. How many amendments to the Constitution have been repealed?
One Amendment was repealed according to US History. The 18th Amendment that was replaced by the 21st Amendment.
17. What are the specific “civil liberties” spelled out in the Bill of Rights?
The Bill of Rights and the 10 Amendments.

A lawyer from California Orly Taitz stated that “To be president Obama’s parents had to of been born in the United States and members of this Country.” She said that “He is completely illegible for the position of being President of America.
