Got a pleasant surprise last night. Mom had tickets to go see Gypsy at the Fox Theater on Broadway in downtown Redwood City. She had already seen it, as had Dad, but I hadn't. Since Dad didn't want to go, she took me. Oh, it was amazing. Gypsy is a musical with music by Jule Styne, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, and a book by Arthur Laurents. Gypsy is loosely based on the 1957 memoirs of Gypsy Rose Lee, the famous striptease artist, and focuses on her mother, Rose, whose name has become synonymous with "the ultimate show business mother." It follows the dreams and efforts of Rose to raise two daughters to perform onstage and casts an affectionate eye on the hardships of show business life. The character of Louise is based on Lee, and the character of June is based on Lee's sister, the actress June Havoc. The production was very well done, and it was amusing. I'd see it again if I had the chance.... Only downside is that when I woke up today, my back felt like I'd had 5 kids consecutively. Some yoga, two motrin, an hour in the hottub, then a shower later leaves me feeling alot better.
... So close to getting that Ipod Touch!
