"Much-Loved Music Videos That Are Actually Terrible:" http://flavorwire.com/198611/much-loved-music-videos-that-are-actually-terrible

I missed half of these, having had little access to cable television after the Summer of '88, and by the time I did get access, some time after the milenium, I was too old to be digging for pearls in the s**t pile that is what is left of music television. We did actually see the scream video the night it premiered, being much hyped in advance and as it was showing right before a show we liked. Our response at the time was a resounding, "WTF!" Watching the Queen video for the who knows how manyth time, but from my 2011 perspective, all I can think of is how heartrendingly beautiful Freddie Mercury was and how sad he spent so much of his too short life pretending to be straight and white. (There's a whole rant about the racism of the music business that I simply haven't the energy to type right now). I am happy to report that while Duran Duran was my era, they were one of my sister's bands, not mine. Yes, I know the lyrics to a lot of their songs thanks to she and her friends playing their albums over and over, and i did not take part in my father's homophobic mocking of them, mostly due to my belief that their homoerotic appeal was quite possibly their only point of value. But I digress. I still remember the featured video and the Rio one with loathing, and I'm pleased to see the commentator correctly identifies the problematic nature of the 'hungry like the Wolf" video. May I add, "Ick." I'd never actually seen the Beyonce one, but now that I have, I vote for the glee version with the football players being much more interesting. Mind you, I didn't get bast the first half of season one of Glee, so I'm not particularly partisan. I have been known to use that bowie video and Elton John's "I'm Still Standing" as examples of the complete WTFness of very early MTV. This is not an endorsement. I have a whole other collection I use to show the strengths of the '80's video format in which they do not feature. I'd never seen the "November Rain" video before, but just looking at Axl Rose makes me all stabby to the point I can't be even close to objective. (He's a racist and an all around shitty human being).
