Xelles’s bright blue eyes loomed about aimlessly; it was indeed here they were to meet. Her long black hair fluttered around her thick snow-drenched gown. Sparkles of snow danced around from the wind that carried them, illuminated with a golden glow from the lamppost where she stood. Her back was turned to the desolate sleeping town, facing the beautiful winter gardens. The small pond was frozen over into ice. The old maple tree was so thick with snow and ice, it appeared as though it still had leaves underneath. Landscapes of snow covered the land as far as the eye could see. It was beautiful... but lonely.
“I miss you…” She murmured to herself looking up into the stary night. In her hands, she held an old hand written letter of fine cursive.
‘Your waiting is at an end
Meet me at the gardens gate on our special night,
I will be fighting for us.
Love; Xile’
She received the letter a year and three months ago, and would forever return to this place. Hoping and waiting to one day see him again but to little avail. She always found herself entranced, imobillised as she would gaze up at the ever changing sky above.
Long ago, her beloved had gone off to fight in a war against his very own mother. Much time has passed since then, and she was kept to raise Melina alone, leaving nothing but a note of farewell behind.
She looked up into the glittering sky. The night was clean, clear, the stars iluminating the atmosphere with brilliants into a dim blue glow. The warm light of the lamppost left the trees to dance in its flickering waves of wind.
“Xelles…” A familiar dark but tender voice interrupted her trance abruptly.
Turning around slowly, she directed her eyes to the location of the voice. Her eyes widened, she gasped. A man emerged from the shadows. He was leaning against the back stone wall of the fence but stepped into the light of the lamp.
He was an otherworldly beauty. His skin, pale and soft as the snow, hypnotic as his deep crimson eyes. His long dark black locks of hair where slicked back from his face, and as he stepped closer she could see his scar that ran over his right eye.
“Xile...” She whispered in disbelief.
“How I have missed you, …my love” Xile was now inches close and he wrapped his arms around her. Tears started to stream down her cheeks. It was strange for someone such as herself to show such emotion, let alone tears for someone else, but with him it felt only natural.
Xile started to brush the back of her head with his soft and beautiful hands, whispering;
“Oh Xelles… why do you weep so?”
Her blue tear-filled eyes looked up into his crimson marbles.
“Because...” She stuttered, her lips quivering.
“I have missed you so… I thought I would never see you again…”
Xile smiled to her answer. He heard from the town’s people that she stood there at the eve of every 13th, awaiting his return; he knew she still had hope in him. With his thumb, he whipped the tears from her face murmuring:
“you’re even beautiful when you cry…”
He leaned in to embrace her on the lips. His lips where iced, but soft. She began to blush, closing her eyes and kissing him back. It was evident with that single kiss how much they loved each other. After a moment, he broke the kiss, and smiled, brushing a strand of hair behind her ears.
“I promise you this… you will never be alone again.”
Xelles’s eye widened as he pulled away… and knelt on one knee.
Her hands jumped to her lips, her face was as red as the small decorated box he held towards her.
“Xelles my love, my beloved, my queen of the night… I have waited long for this day. I know in my mind and in my heart, that I cannot bier to live without you any longer, so I ask you this…”
He paused opening the box. Inside it rested the most beautiful silver ring Xelles had ever seen.
“Xelles… will you marry me?” She smiled, her face red and soaked with tears.
