Rightio! So here's my life update! I got my temp state ID and was able to get on the plane bound for El Paso ("I wonder what state she live in?" wink so that was cool, but the I remembered...I have a slight fear of falling in a fiery crash out of the sky and hurtling to the ground....go fig. So that was not so great but I survived it none the less!
Let me say this now: I live in central Texas ("So that's the state she lives in!" wink and was not use to the pure (ugly) deserts that El Paso has nor was I use to the sight out mountains (which was pretty cool ^^). But that aside, let me tell you about my "adventures".
First off, when we landed, we found out that the airport gave us the wrong cars. See, we have nine team members and two coaches; both vans we got only seated a max of five plus trunk space for luggage. Now, I'm on the best at math, but I realized that something was wrong here, so one of our members had to go ride with Mrs.J since she happened to be there.First adventure: successful.
Second thing that happened...I became Navigator in our car. I can normally read a map pretty good but something was screwy with this one. The directions I was reading off were WRONG! At one point I told Mrs. M (coach one) to turn right and she said/shouted "There isn't a right! There's a left and a Whataburger!" and I believe I said/shouted something along the lines of "Then make a new road!" Needless to say we were slightly loss. But I shall leave out most of that drama and skip to the part when we FINALLY found the highway as were headed in the right direction. For those of your who don't know where El Paso is, it's right on the boarder between Texas and Mexico...like literally on the fricking boarder. I will say right now that going to Juarez, Mexico was NOT on my list of things to do while in El Paso, and yet after reading "Next exit: 17.1 miles" on the directions I happened to see a sign on the highway that read "Exit to Juarez: 1.5 miles". The reaction in the car: "WE'RE IN F*CKING MEXICO!!"
No. We were not in Mexico. The highway we were on literally SKIMMED the boarder so despite seeing the Mexican flag fluttering in the breeze, we were still in the U.S....but we could see the boarder fence with barbed wire on top. But whatever, we eventually made it to the hotel after TWO hours. Second adventure: successful but life-scarring.
After that we were in a lull of competition in which my team won second in the state for Relay and I won ninth in the state for speech (can you see me floating with pride?). But then, when we were headed towards the airport, El Paso decided to kick us in the rear with a huge a** dust storm...with 76mph winds....
Needless to say, our flight was canceled and we had to go back to the hotel. But we got one the next morning and despite missing schooling and freaking out that our grades were suffer (hello, Academic Decathlon? What else would we freak about?) we were okay.
Now that that is over with, I'm simply worried about my upcoming French Orals (gods kill me -___-;; ), finishing my cosplay (NOT ENOUGH TIME!!!), and just being an all around (semi) sane girl. ^^
Wish me luck.
