When I got back home, I placed Shalimar on the bed. As I began to tuck her in, I realized that she had grown several inches in the few hours it took me to get home. I knew that my friends didn't notice anything wrong but I did.

First off, I noticed that Shal was able to talk from the get go. No matter how smart the dragon ends up, as a hatchling, they are not supposed to start talking until they are ten days old and even then they can't say more than "Mama" and "Dada".

Next thing I found a bit odd was that Shalimar had walked over to Skully and removed his shinbone to start gnawing on it. Walking and gnawing at an early age is not all that unusual...but going up to a complete stranger is. Dragon hatchlings are intensly shy of anyone they don't consider a parent for the first few days.

Nothing unusual happened for a long time--or if it had, I was too busy fighting or weeping over Creighton--until the end. First, Shalimar called for her Auntie Koopa--proper introductions had not been made yet. Then she began to aquire enormous amounts of power because of the loss of her "father"--Creighton.

Opening a secret door in my bookshelf, I removed a device that would measure power. Holding it a few inches above Shalimar, I ran it from head to toe. After a few seconds, the scanner presented feedback with an approximation of Shalimar's power level and other minor details.

The scanner showed that Shalimar's power level was ten times stronger than mine had been before I lost power. If she had been allowed to gather a few more seconds of engergy, Shalimar would have went into full demonized dragon form.

And totally beside the point, Shalimar wasn't carried to term like other dragon children. Normally, the egg is carried within the mother dragon for one day WHILE she is in dragon form. Then, the mother will lay the egg and keep it warm (there are many ways of doing so) for nine months before the egg hatches. I carried Shalimar for two days in human form and she hatched in a few hours.

I don't know what Orsnic did when he created her, but Shalimar frightens me...a lot.

On a side note, I powered up again and found my boots. No more sores from stupid booties!
