Does anyone remember a couple of months ago when that college student jumped off a bridge because he got filmed having gay sex? I was eating a muffin today and I remembered it.
Because a couple of months ago me and my dad were eating breakfast and listening to NPR. I was having one of those big, moist Costco muffins, the kind that taste like they've got half a stick of butter in them. My dad was having cornflakes. We heard on the radio that someone had died and it was someone else's fault and I remember my muffin turning to gum in my mouth and my eyes getting lost off in empty space. /Isn't that murder?/ I thought, though I knew even then that it wasn't. And my Dad stopped eating too and set his spoon down in the bowl, looking over across the table at me. He said 'Hey kiddo, you're gunna be okay.'
That was the week I sent out my last college application. I really hope there's more people in the world like my dad than like the guy who thinks it's funny to out teenagers.
