Story by pythonesque
“Sean?” Lundi asked softly. She and Sean were cozied up together on their bed, half asleep in the early morning hours. Lundi rested her head on Sean’s chest, tracing shapes against his chest, and Sean slowly ran his hands through Lundi’s silver hair.
“Mm?” Sean said, more asleep than awake.
“Do you think this is going to last?”
“Mm?” Sean asked again, the question going in one ear and out the other.
“Us. Do you think we’re going to last?”
Sean blinked awake. The tone of Lundi’s voice wasn’t worried or upset, only curious. He looked down at her and then Lundi slowly turned her own amber eyes up at him.
“Yes,” Sean said, “Why? Is something wrong or –“
“No,” Lundi said, looking back down and shrugging slightly. She nuzzled her face in close to his chest and ran a hand down his side, “I was just thinking.”
“Tell me about it.”
“Well, I just start thinking about everything sometimes, y’know? Our pasts, our now, our future. Like … I know you say you don’t care what I’ve done in the past, but we can’t just ignore it –“
“I don’t care,” Sean insisted.
Lundi let out a light sigh, softly running her nails across Sean’s chest. They were quiet for a few moments as the both thought.
“It just crosses my mind sometime.”
“I understand.”
“Because if we’re going to stay together and have a future, our past is going to be a part of it.”
“This isn’t just about that, is it?”
“Well, no…”
“What, then?”
“If we’re going to be together and stay together, you have to meet my family sometime.
This time, Sean let out a sigh. He squeezed her shoulder as he mulled about the idea.
“I know, I know. I will one day … Just. I’m not ready yet.”
“All right…” Lundi said slowly.
“C’mon, don’t be like that.”
“I’m tired of waiting, Sean. I’m tired of making up excuses of why I don’t come and visit or why you don’t go with me those times I’ve gone. If we’re going to settle down and start a family or anything, we have to figure this out.”
“I promise I’ll go.”
“Soon?”
“Relatively soon.”
“All right.”
Softly and lovingly, Sean kissed her forehead. Lundi relaxed a little and smiled.
“You want to start a family?” Sean asked after some time of just lying together and enjoying being together. They had discussed the topic before, but it was always in the terms of one day or later on in life. How Lundi said it, it sounded more immediate and more real.
“Well, eventually,” Lundi said with another slight shrug.
“How you said it, it sounds like you’ve been thinking about it.”
“I told you, I think about stuff.”
“I know, but it just seemed like…”
“I’ve been considering it more lately. We’ve been together for a little bit now. You do still need to meet my family, but once that happens, maybe… And I guess I’ll have to give up Fae hunting and work for a little while, but … to have a family with you, it’d be worth it.”
Sean smiled. This caused Lundi’s slightly nervous expression as she explained the idea to fade and break into a matching smile. Things seemed right and complete in this moment. The rest of the morning was spent lying together, not really talking, but enjoying just being together like this
