Dream World Mirau by Josephina Mari
Day Twenty Eight of NaNoWriMo

I woke up in the real word covered in a cold sweat with tears rolling down my face. I was for sure I died back there along with Karou, Baer, and Leonardo; but it seemed that I somehow survived and was transported back to the real world. The time on my alarm clock read a little past three in the morning so I had only a few hours until I had to get ready for school. I got up out of bed and then I noticed the bag of gemstones, I bought we arrived in Mesa, fall to the floor with a light thud. If only I had come back sooner. I could have brought the others to help us before it was too late. Now I wasn’t sure about Mirau’s fate or the fate of my friends who I meet there. Maybe Karou’s vision was wrong or maybe I wasn’t in the right place at the right time. I caused Karou so many delays so I began to wonder if he would have been better off without me. I brought my left hand up to my face to wipe away the newly forming tears from my eyes and then I saw Karou’s bracelet again and I remembers that I was Mirau’s hope. I would help defeat the Akuen and save everyone. I had to believe that prophecy still held true now as I quickly dressed for school in my favorite pair of jeans and a black tee-shirt with an owl on it that was perched in a tree overlooking a full moon rising. I gathered my supplies for school into my backpack then I placed the bag of gemstones on top of my lunch inside that I had packed the night before. Once everything was ready to go I put on my socks and coat and then I headed downstairs with my backpack over my shoulders. I quickly put on my chucks then I headed outside to wait for the school bus. I was a little early getting to the bus stop since I didn’t eat breakfast, but in all honestly I was anxious to get to school and find out if my friends were alright. If I didn’t see Ben, Kyle, or Clare at lunch time then I would know for sure something happened to Mirau and I was too late to save it.

Once I arrived at school I went straight to English class, but I could feel my feet were dragging on the way there. I didn’t know what I would do if Ben wasn’t in class today. I felt like I was on the verge of going insane for letting my friends down. I walked into the empty classroom then I put my bag down on the floor next to my chair. I then sat down in my seat and then I put my arms up on the desk top before I laid my forehead against my forearms trying to block out everything around me with the invisible wall my arms created for me. I stayed that way for a few minutes until I head a familiar voice calling out my name and asking me if I was alright. At first I thought I was dreaming or maybe hallucinating, but then as I lifted my head up I realized I was still at school in the real world and also that Ben was standing next to me with a hand on my shoulder. I got up out of my chair suddenly then I wrapped my arms around Ben while I muttered quietly into his chest “Please don’t disappear...I’m sorry.” Ben looked at me confused before he helped me sit back down n my chair again and then he reached into his pocket and pulled out a piece of cloth with his tribes symbol embroidered into one of the corners. He then handed me the cloth and said “Mari please tell me what happened. I have never seen you so upset before and I’m really worried about you.” I wiped the tears out of my eyes with the cloth Ben gave me before I spoke again with a shaky voice “One of the Akuen attacked us in Mesa. Baer got poisoned so Leonardo was trying to cure him with the complex spell something about his magical energy link...I don’t really remember, but the Akuen guy attacked Karou with the black ball of energy then Karou passed out. The same thing happened to me before I fainted when I saw the guy going towards Baer and Leonardo. I failed everyone.” I said feeling the tears start to form in my eyes again.

“Mari I saw Kyle on the bus this morning to school. We live only a few blocks away from each other. He seemed upset and didn’t want to talk to me about it, but I know for sure he is alive. I understand why he wouldn’t talk about it now since it was relating to Mirau. Don’t worry Mari, everything is still going according to plan. You have the stones from Mesa don’t you?” Ben said trying to comfort me and at the same time he could tell that the final battle was drawing near. Everyone would need to come together and act tonight. “I have them with me. You needed seven of them right Ben?” I said as I reached into my backpack to take out the bag of stones. I took out one stone of each color red, green, light blue, purple, and white then I took out an extra red and white one. I handed the stones to Ben then I returned the bag to my backpack after sealing it. Ben nodded to me then he put the stones in his pants pocket to give to his tribe brothers when he got back to the reservation. “Don’t worry Mari, this fight is almost over. We will win that I promise you.” Ben said before he took his seat in the desk next to me as our classmates began to come into the room. I smiled at Ben before I reminded myself I needed to focus on my school work for now. I would talk to Karou, Ben, and Clare at lunch time to figure out a plan on fighting that guy and the others that may follow him. I took out my Literature and opened to the middle of the story about Hercules just as the bell rang to start class. English and History class seemed to go by slowly as I anxiously tired to think of a plan. Once we got everyone together how would be coordinate a battle plan to effectively defeat the Akuen without suffering any causalities on our side. The people fighting with us had lives here on Earth as well, so if something were to happen to them in Mirau I wondered what the effect would be on their body here in this world. The thought of my friends disappearing forever because of me scared me greatly, but the thought of Mirau disappearing as well made me feel just as bad.

Once lunch time finally came around I felt a calming feeling pass over me as I saw Ben, Kyle, and Clara setting at our usual table together. It looked like Kyle and Clara were talking about something while Ben listened to them silently. “I’m sorry...” Was all I could manage to say as I stood at the end of the table wondering if I was still welcome to sit there or not. “There is no need to apologize Mari. I was careless and we were all caught off guard. Believe me I won’t let it happen again. I understand the Akuen’s power source more now and I think I know a way to defeat them, but it will depend how many of them we are up against and how many allies we have to fight with us. Please Mari come sit with us and I’ll go over my plan with you all.” Karou said as he motioned towards the empty chair next to him. I sat down in the chair then I watched as Karou took out a pen and a spiral notebook from his backpack. He then drew an outline of a person and drew a rough sketch of the brain and heart before he spoke again “The heart and brain are connected. The heart can feel dangers coming long before we can see them. The heart sends a signal to the brain which then causes the body to react. For people with high amounts of magic there is a pocket of store energy right below the heart that allows them to use spells for both offensive and defensive abilities. When the brain sends the signal to act then the person is able to tap into that magical reserve to execute abilities they normally wouldn’t be able to. The Akuen’s magical reserve is located right below their heart as well. If we could disable their magical channels then they wouldn’t be able to summon the monsters to attack us anymore. Baer, Claria, and I will disable the magical channels with a light based spell Leonardo taught me shortly after he defeated the Akuen that attacked us then we made our escape. I taught Clare the incantation this morning so she should be able to execute the spell and Baer knows it already.” Karou said as he drew things on the notebook page while he wrote notes on important things we needed to remember. “Wait a second Kyle. You said Leonardo defeated the Akuen guy that attacked us and then we escaped? How did that happen, I don’t understand since I thought we were all killed.” I said as confusion ran rapid in my head.

“Let me explain everything as it happened. After you passed out Leonardo cut off the healing spell with Baer then both of them attacked the Akuen guy with a lightning spell that combined killed the Akuen member. After that Baer and Leonardo helped you and I escape to a safe location, I woke up to find Baer healing me while Leonardo was healing you Mari. Even though my wounds were gone I still felt extremely exhausted so I ended up passing out again while Baer was removing the darkness from my wound. Dark energy is like a poison that slowly eats away at ones soul and if the darkness is not removed quickly it will cause a person to go crazy.” Kyle explained answering some of my question while raising others. “Baer and Leonardo are alright then. That’s a relief and I’m glad Karou is okay as well. I hope we can gather our forces together tonight to put an end to this long war.” I thought to myself before I said out load “I brought the stones with me so that you guys can pass them out. I’ll see my friends after school so I’ll give them the stones then.” I said as I took out the bag from my backpack then I handed it to Kyle who took his share before he passed it to Clare who did the same before returning it to me. I put it in my backpack again before we heard the lunch bell ring signaling it was time to head to class. Kyle closed his notebook and put it in his backpack again with his pen before he stood up and said “See you all on the battle front.” Before he waved and then we all headed to class to finish out the rest of our school day.
