Case Two, Part Three (cont.)
"Wh-what?!"

Sarah was standing up then, leaning over her desk with a face of pure surprise and confusion. "What do you mean, 'you're going on a date?!" She had knocked over a few things on her desk, she was so distraught. The detective simply gave her a look, and let out a puff of smoke. "It means what it means," he replied. "Ms. Deltorres wants to discuss the case over some chow. Around seven thirty, I think she said. So, I savvy that as meaning that I've got a date." He didn't seem very enthused about the date; the way he saw it, it was just dinner and some snooping, nothing more, nothing less. "What's it to you, anyways, Sarah?" he asked, raising an eyebrow. "Is there a reason you don't me out and about?"

Sarah gulped, and shook her head. "O-of course not, sir!" she said quickly. "I was just surprised because...you don't look like the dating type? Yeah, that's it!" She caught herself, barely. "How long has it been since you've been on a date, Mr. Delahoy?" He frowned at the question, and flicked some ashes from his cig into the trash can nearby. "I don't know, maybe two, three years ago?" he answered, not too sure. "It was that one dame from the news, Cindy Donivinh. Said she wanted to get to know me. Turns out it was an interview." He gave Sarah another look, having a good idea what she was on about. “Why are you so interested on my love life, Ms. Fontaine?” he asked. “I’ve told you once, I’ve told you a thousand times: I’m strictly business.” Sarah nodded sheepishly, and sighed. “Yeah, yeah…I know. Strictly business.”

Delahoy smiled then, finishing up his cigarette. “Sounds like somebody’s finally getting savvy,” he replied. “Only took you a few months, too.” He would have laughed he was the laughing kind, but a small grin was all anyone would get out of him. “Well, I need to get back to my place,” he said, sliding his trench coat on. “I need to get all dolled up for my little interrogation you keep calling a date.” As he left, Sarah waved goodbye, saying, “Have a good time, Joe.” But the second he left, she cursed under her breath. “That jerk,” she spat,” He’s nothing but a no-good, rotten…man, he’s so complicated.” She decided the best course of action would be to work on the rest of the files she needed to deal with, and then go have a nice night on the town.
