Chapter Seven: Mistakes and Heartbreaks/ Summer 25th

Elli opened her eyes slightly as the sun shone on her face. The Clinic was closed today, but Adam was supposed to bring herbs anyway. She covered her face with her pillow, wondering how she would face Adam. Did she like him back? She hugged her pillow as she sat on the bed. Her mind began to race of why she should say back. Almost every time she did see him, her heart began to speed and she blushed a lot around him… She let out a sigh as she set her pillow back on her bed as she went to take a shower. Maybe the shower would help her cool off a bit. She then changed into her normal dress after she was done with her shower, and brushed her hair. She then walked down to the clinic and made herself a small cup of coffee as she sat at her desk. She then heard some rustling from Trent’s office. She stood up and walked over to his office.

She tapped on the door. “Doctor? Are you alright?” She turned the knob to the door as she walked inside. Trent was at his bookshelf. Apparently, he had to try and pull out a book, but instead of one, he got the entire shelf. Elli snorted and began to laugh as she went over to help the doctor clean up. Trent and her chuckled laugh as the set the books in small piles on Trent’s desk. Elli collapsed on the couch in his office as she let out her breath.

The air then became somewhat heavy as Elli started to get a bit nervous around the doctor. “S-So how are you doctor?” Elli looked at her lap as she shifted her feet slightly. Trent smiled. “I’m doing alright and there’s no need to be shy Elli.” Elli looked up while her face was still. “Oh… I’m sorry doctor.” Trent then put his finger on her lip as he stared into her eyes. “You can call me Trent.” Elli’s face went red as she nodded. Trent then sat next to her on the couch.

Elli’s face pulsed red as her mind spun. “Wh-What should we talk about?!” Elli put her hands on her face as she shook it slowly. The then lifted her head as she turned to Trent. “So doc- I mean Trent. What’s your favorite fruit?” Stupid… Trent just smiled and laughed. “I don’t quite know what kind of fruit is my favorite, but I do know one thing.” He scooted closer to Elli and leaned on top of her. “I happen to like you…” Elli felt her heart start to race as her face began to turn a deep red. “What?...” Before she should continue to say anything, Trent kissed her on the lips as she laid there.

“What is he doing?!” Her mind was now spinning like mad. She began to close her eyes slightly, for her mind began to say yes, while her heart began to hurt and deny the kiss. She finally pushed him off as she turned her head and covered her mouth. She sat there dumbfounded as Trent stood up. “Why did you reject my kiss when you didn’t reject his?” Elli moved her hand from her mouth as she stood up and put her hand on his shoulder. “What do you mean Trent?” Trent moved away from her and faced her. “I saw you kissing Adam on pier! Don’t play me as stupid! Why do you like that farmer boy, and not me?! I LOVE you Elli! Why can’t you see it?!”

Trent got close to Elli and wrapped his arms around her waist and forcefully kissed her again. Elli tried to push him away, but he wouldn’t budge. Elli began to get scared. What was wrong with the doctor? She finally bit his lip as she tried to run, but she wasn’t fast enough. He grabbed her and pinned her against the wall as she struggled. He kissed her neck as she blushed red. She felt like crying but the tears wouldn’t flow. Her head was crying for someone to help her, but no one seemed to show up. She closed her eyes tightly hoping that this was a dream, but she couldn’t wake up. She then heard thudding against the ground as Adam struck the doctor.

Adam now stood in front of her. He was breathing heavily as Trent lay on the ground, now starting to sit up and rub his cheek. Elli began to cry as she wrapped her arms around Adam. “Adam!!” She began to sob as Trent stood up and smiled. Adam wrapped his arms around Elli as he stroked her hair. “Shh… Everything is fine.” His voice sounded so soothing that Elli began to feel weak in his arms. Elli couldn’t stop the tears from flowing. It was scary how forceful the doctor was. Adam then turned and faced the doctor. “Trent, What’s wrong with you?!” Trent stood up as he still smiled and wiped his lower lip. He then began to speak back. “You do understand that Elli loves me right? She always has, every from the first day we met.”

Elli felt a cold chill rush up her spine. She stared at Trent then Adam. She could feel his arms begin to shake. “How dare you!” Adam finally yelled at the doctor. Adam let go of Elli and walked over to Trent and grabbed him by the next. Elli felt so small and helpless as Adam raised his fist in the air. Elli stood as she screamed. “STOP IT!! Don’t hurt him!” Adam’s fist paused in midair. Elli fell to her knees once again as Adam let go of Trent’s neck. Elli then heard Adam speak softly. “What?” Adam kept his back towards Elli as he spoke. “Elli…?” “Yes?” “Do you really love this man?” Elli’s heart began to race as she didn’t know what to do. “I-I…” “What should I say? Which one do I love? Or do I love anybody?” She looked at the ground as an answer just blurted out. “I don’t love anyone! Just please stop fighting!!”

Adam’s fist then fell to his side as Elli’s legs began to stand on their own. She then turned and ran out the door. She didn’t know where she was running, but she wanted to be far away from there. She heard someone yelling her name but she didn’t turn or stop to see who is was. Her legs then began to grow heavy, and before long, she collapsed. She screamed into the sky as she hit the ground with her fist and sobbed. “That idiot!!” She put her hands over face as she continued to cry. Her eyelids began to grow heavy as she found a nearby tree and leaned against it. Her eyes then closed and she fell asleep into a long nap.

Elli’s eye’s opened to her being surrounded by a fire and a lamp. She sat up and looked around. “Where am I?” A bulky man then came out of another room as Elli jumped. It was the woodsman, Gotz. Elli let out a small sigh as Gotz pulled up a chair and sat by the bed to make sure she didn’t have a fever. “Thank you…” The man nodded and made a small grunt as he headed towards the door frame. “You don’t have a fever, so you’re free to leave when you wish.” Elli thanked him once again as she moved the sheets off her legs. She got on her shoes as she left the cabin.

The sun was going down to her right as she walked home. She wrapped her arms around herself as the night began to grow cold. Her feet seemed to echo as she walked down the empty streets. Was what all just happened, true? She finally stood outside of the clinic. Her heart began to race as she gripped the handle and twisted it. She took one firm step inside and made sure that it was safe. She made it in and closed the door behind her when the lights flicked on. She jumped as she noticed Trent’s office door was still open. She walked over to the door a peered in as Trent fixed his wounds. “Ow… that’s smarts.” Elli tapped on the door as Trent turned around. “Oh… Elli…” Elli walked inside and made sure that she stood her ground. “Where’s Adam?” Trent sat in his chair as he lightly rubbed his swollen cheek. “He left. He said to tell you that he still loved you and that he hoped that you were happy, he then went up to your room real fast, then dashed out of the clinic.” Trent sighed as Elli ran up the stairs to her room. She slammed the door open as she noticed something on her bed. It was a small piece of paper with a sunflower on it. Elli began to cry as she held the paper close. The words on the note echoed in her head. “Good bye Elli.”
