Erämaajärvi
The solemn breeze swept through my hair as if in a dream. Here I am, a lone writer at the shore of the lake not too far off from where I resided once. The childhood days softly and peacefully returning to mind. The water was calming to see. It was calm enough to let your mind wander off like into a fantasy folk tale. All the while I sat near the shoreline, with my notebook in view on my lap. The wilderness around you made you feel unsecure, yet at peace and at home. The grass beneath you as if dancing in the wind, the shimmer of the snow capped mountains reflecting off one another, the wildlife slowly going to rest. What a dream to behold before your eyes.
The sun was starting to set not too far off in the distance over the array of mountains, its rays peeking over the edges. Gently I sat back, dazing at the beauty all around me. I was home, at peace for once in my lifetime. But alack, something is wrong. A strange feeling started coursing through my veins. I sat up while turning my gaze across the glistening water. The only things noticeable fading within time from the sun, but the flock of swans by the shoreline were seen. Alas, my eyes noticed a small figure at the near shoreline by them.
It was a maiden. Her dress was as white as virgin snow. Her hair as shimmering as the starlight did in the starlit sky, her face barely noticeable from the distance I was in, but her beauty was clearly shown from her gracely movements. Her gown swept across the grass as she, to the waters edge. I would have had ran, but my thoughts at this time were clearly on her. Who was she? What is she…?
This woman had her bare feet in the coldness of the blue, heading to the swans not too far off, and then petting them as if they were her own. How unfearful they were towards her. But why are they not fleeing? That question slipped out of my mouth in a soft, yet quick whisper. Without helping it, my body seemed to rise up on its own. Out of fear and out of the curiosity that was covering me like a veil.
Alas, she has seen me. Her head turned to see, a lone wanderer in the middle of twilight by the same shoreline as her. Her stare was powerful, fearful, and yet so soothing. I could see her beauty hidden behind her looks of sorrow. How beautiful.
In an instant, the cries of the swans started as they took their flight. The woman was barely visible now to the human eye from the night closing in. The mere eye couldn’t see this much, but I could. I was a gifted child since I came upon this earth. I could see the spirits and souls and what they felt. Never had I told another soul about my gift I received.
Suddenly as my gaze went off of her for a split second, she vanished. Without another word, she was gone. Just like the wind that had swept through my soul. Never had I seen something that extraordinary in my lifetime. I just only wished I could see her once more. Once. With my pen and my notebook in hand, my journey home has begun, and a new tale will be told about the Wilderness Lake.
