In beautiful violet[The potato flower is extremely beautiful, and at first people thought it was a decor plant]
Choose not the exposed[the part above the ground]
But deeper search[for the potatoes]
Lest you meet
The devil's fate.[in most of these stories, the devil had to split his crop with a farmer, and the devil chose the part of the crop that grew above ground, the farmer got to keep that below. In the winter, the devil starved.]
