Review Log
This will contain mostly reviews. I will keep spoilers to a minimum where possible, but I can't guarantee spoiler free.
I have a confession. I haven't seen the Hurt Locker. I know you are thinking it looks like my kind of thing. I've read soldier accounts of the latest Iraq war. I follow the politics. Hell, I've been friends with minesweepers and ordinance disposal guys from the first Iraq war. Also, the only thing I liked about The English Patient was the Sikh bomb disposal guy (and let's be honest, the cinematography). The truth is, I'm not ready for art about the War yet, what with it still going on. I'm just not. You might argue that The Last True Story I'll Ever Tell is art, but the guy was in Iraq and this is what he had to say about it. The fact that it's beautifully written doesn't take away from the look on his face every time an interviewer asked about the book. He pretty clearly needed to get that stuff out of him; writing must have been incredibly painful, a process of drawing poison. He needed to promote the thing because he absolutely needed the money, but watching an interview was watching a man being tortured. I'm not saying the Hurt Locker isn't important. Some day, I will likely watch it, but not now, not yet.
