I was the first one up, showered, and dressed. Evon was fast asleep on his bed and Lucas was out cold on the floor. I would of moved him to the couch, but every time I tried he would turn onto his stomach under the coffee table. I made me some cereal. There was no coco puffs anywhere so I ate cheerios. They taste like cardboard, but I was starving. I heard Lucas hit his head on the table trying to get up and his grunt coming after it. I turned to see his big smile looking at me, but Evon’s frown from the stair case. He was glaring at Lucas, but when he turned to see me looking at him with concern, his frown went to a sweet smile. I could tell that they wanted the other one out of the picture. Evon walked up to me, placing a hand on my shoulder and asked, “ Are you feeling better?” “ Yes I am.” I moved away from him because now that I was feeling better, I was scared to death. I backed into Lucas, who looked like he was ready to fight if I gave him the command. Why was he even here? And why was I still friends with him? He kissed another girl, so why not stay with her? They began screaming back and forth in a matter of minutes. I screamed for them to shut up, gripping my head as it throbbed. Both ran over to my side and put me on the couch. Lucas was hovering over me, asking me if I was alright. I shoved him away. I was hurt of what he did to me and it tore me up inside. “ Heather. What’s wrong?” He went to place his hand on mine, but I moved away before he could. I felt hot tears running down my face, and the look on his told me he knew what he had done. I got up, leaving him crying on the couch, and approached Evon. “ What is it?” “ Tell me more about you!” “ Well, I’m fifteen years old. I study language arts. My passion is writing.” “ I see.” He told me that his foster parents died a year ago and that his real parents had no idea he existed. I felt bad about all of this. I glanced back at Lucas who was still sobbing on the couch. Then Evon was caught in the memory of when his foster parents were alive. I walked up the stairs and sat there on the window sill at the end of the hall way. The pillows on the bench were soft like an angel’s feather on its wing. The sun was setting. The sky was a mixture of red, orange, yellow and purple. It made m think of the tine Emma and Zachary took me to the beach the first time. We laughed like never before when Zachary ran into the freezing water and had to get out because he didn’t he the warning with the jellyfish. We built sandcastles and cover Emma completely with sand and then there was the sunset. It was just like this one and when Zachary told us that he had fun today. It was very rare for him to enjoy anything, especially with us. We all were so different, and I barely understand how we got along so well. The sun was gone and the moon was up by now. It had been up since an hour ago, but I was caught up in all the memories of sunsets that I lost track of time. I went downstairs to grab something to eat before going to bed. I noticed that the lights were low, and it was quiet except for the soft music that was playing. I saw the candle glow coming from the kitchen and when I poked my head in, I saw Lucas looking back at me with a soft smile on his face. “ Heather. Are you feeling alright?” His voice was a little high pitched, but I think that was because he sobbed my name over and over again. “ Yes. And a little freaked out. What is all this stuff?” I wish what I said was true. I wasn’t freaked out at all, I was amazed. He done this all for me. I think. He had pulled me into a hug and a dancing position next. His soft smile and his glistening eyes made me feel warm inside. I felt like melting. Maybe I was to harsh on him before and that he was trying to make me impressed. Well let me tell you, it worked. We stopped dancing and he pulled me closer. I didn’t know what to do, so I just stood there like a complete idiot while he leaned in and kissed me. His lips weren’t what I expected them to be. They were warm and not cold. I did not expect this to happen, and guess what. It did. Now I know how that girl must of felt when he kissed her then. I didn’t mind it now. But, what did that make us? Whatever. He let go and just stared at me. I followed his eyes which were fixed on Evon. He was glaring at Lucas, with clenched teeth and his hands made into fists. I wasn’t sure if he was going to charge at Lucas, so I stepped in front of him just in case. Evon backed off with a depressed sigh. He went back upstairs. I could hear his sobs as he stomped on. Now what do I do? I didn’t know if Lucas and I were together, or if all of that was just some scheme to see Evon get hurt. I looked to see a smirk on his face, but then it turned to a loving smile as he brushed his hair away from his eyes and over his ear. I knew him well enough to call him a best friend, but I wish I had gotten a little warning when I woke up to see a wonderful surprise standing right in front of me.
