Regarding sensitive music lovers
So I'm looking at other peoples' opinions on what certain songs mean, and I don't do that often (considering I don't really listen to a lot of music, but Adam's been changing that). I noticed that a lot of people are very defensive of exactly when/where they started listening to whatever band or heard whatever song. It's nuts! Not only that, but most of those individuals also seem to have a severe phobia of "their" favorite bands becoming *gasp!!!* popular. O.o Like, really? Yeah, really. Crazy, imo. Is it really that big of a deal that someone other than you now has easier access to discovering a great band? Being popular does not diminish a band's quality, and I think it's bogus that some people seem to think that it does. Sure, they are now more popular, and they now have more incentive to put out more albums, thus making more money- sometimes causing them to pump out meaningless albums according to some. But I mean... that's how they make their living. If you sense that their music is lessening, then simply stop listening to it. The music industry has an extremely sensitive audience. I guess that spawns from integrating music into our personalities, and thereby thinking that if our favorite music is mainstream, then we must be a stereotype. And we just can't stand to see ourselves placed into labels that other people follow. In other words: just because you happen to fit into a stereotype (which we all do, considering they were created for a reason) doesn't mean you have to live your life defending your individuality rather than being it. Someone else may see you, and may label you, but is that what you think of yourself? No? Then who gives a ********? >.> I guess I'm overreacting a little, but it makes me sad to see people going into a defensive stance just because someone says "everyone only listens to these guys because they think it's cool!"- just get over it. You like them? Great! Listen to them!
