For the first time since I've been here I let my accent slip. It must have been because I was so comfortable but it didn't take long before everyone else noticed. They thought it would be amusing to mock it with some cliche thick Georgian accent. At least that was the most I could guess because it didn't sound much like anything and that made them look stupid: like the only people I know that live in Georgia. That part of the joke was on them.
It did start to bother me when they started with the Jeff Foxworthy jokes they heard on tv. It must have been where they got the accent too since anyone that makes millions can't be a true redneck.
I couldn't help but wonder how many of them actually went down south. All the jokes they spout off didn't really apply to anyone I knew before. It was just kind of annoying to hear them making fun of people from a place they'd never seen. Not all southern people had dirty yards and fat stomachs from too much beer. In fact, I think the South has a better way of life than these people. Hell, maybe the south should start mocking the north.
