I don't deal with shmucks!
Tonsillectomy
Well, it is day one of recovery from my tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy & sinus/turbinate surgery. I'm still pretty nauseous.. I didn't sleep for more than an hour in a row last night because I kept waking up on my own, sometimes from snoring weird or choking on my swollen uvula. But at least I was able to rehydrate my throat so it wasn't completely and utterly painfully dry. Oh boy, last night was rough, that's that. All I remember about the surgery was getting this short-term memory inducing medicine, and then being wheeled to the surgery room. After that... BLANK. I don't even remember having my peppermint scented anesthesia mask put on, or the IV for that matter. I woke up in the recovery room, completely shivering and clattering my teeth. I had several warm blankets put on me, along with a heat lamp over me. I remember a nurse saying to the other nurse "Hey! Did we get really cool new blankets?", because she saw the new Christmas blanket I had on me. Then the other nurse said, "No.. she brought this one from home." And that's what I remember from the recovery room.

I had to wear a drip bad under my nose because my nose might have the tendency to drip blood.. but my mom was against it because she thought the tape would mess up my face. But my nose did bleed a little because, I think, I started to cry when my mom made these 'jokes' that I didn't think were very funny.
The only sucky thing so far is the EXTREMELY swollen tongue and uvula. And it's really hard to swallow and spit, so I haven't really eaten anything in about 40 hours..
And I think I'm allergic to anesthesia, because a few hours after getting home, I was feeling so nauseous that I knew I shouldn't leave the bathroom, and sure enough, I through up a bunch of black blood that was probably in my stomach. Then I through up all of the water I just drank and I think the antibiotic medicine I just took. My nose also started to bleed a whole lot.. (and right when I cleaned it out with the ocean water spray and everything!) I guess the force of my throwing up loosened the blood clot, so it just started leaking out. Gross, I know.. I wasn't scared to see all of that blood either, because I kind of expected it. Thankfully, my mom showed up and called the doctor for advice. All was well after that. Kind of. I didn't like having to go to the bathroom 15 times that night. But, you gotta do what you gotta do.

I was expecting more ear pain and a fever, but those symptoms never really occurred. Oh, and I was relieved that I was able to have at least hospital shorts on underneath my hospital gown. I was so not into the idea of being naked under a flimsy hospital gown just for having a tonsillectomy.
Hehe, my mom got me a panda from the gift shop, that was nice.
And I got one of those "mystic balls" from the ocean room, (a room with so many free toys and gifts that I wished I was five again, 'cause I'd be going NUTS!) I asked the mystic ball if my surgery would go well and it said, 'Looks good."

Oh boy, I'm hungry, yet not, I just wish I had function of my throat... uuugh.. mini pressure around the eyes too.. And I'm worried that I might have permanent taste loss. I mean, I was hoping that after the surgery I would have even better tasting abilities, because they were pretty poor beforehand.. but now, reading stories about a patient who hasn't tasted sweets in over 2 months after her surgery has me feeling really depressed and scared.
Oh dear lord, I just pray for the best.
