A beautiful night.
I lie my head Upon the ground, And gaze at the stars, Aside the one I love.
We whisper sweet nothings into each other's ears; And we hold each other's hands, And we press our lips together, As we watch the black sky dance it's celestial ballet.
This moment is just perfect, This moment is all that I would ask for, Just to stay like this forever, alongside her, Just to be alone with her on a marvelous night.
I leaned in to give her a kiss, And as I pulled back, I noticed a shooting star, A falling star: a superstition that I had a different... belief in. They say a shooting star grants one a wish...
...But I am not human; I know the truth. The truth is this sky is not real, These stars are false; a perfect mimic of their true counterparts. And when one falls; when one dies, it means someone died.
I stared at it in awe, and shock, and fear, Wondering whom it was that was lost today. But she doesn't know, doesn't know what's happening; she saw my awestruck face, And asked if I thought it was beautiful.
I told her that I did, which was not completely a lie. It would be a wonderful sight to see; had I not known the truth. I truely did find it dazzlingly beautiful, But every time I see it, I become afraid.
We are slowly dying out. Soon we will all be erradicated.
I couldn't help but notice tonight, That there were less stars than there were the night before. And that's when it happened, They all began to fall so quickly.
She stood up in amazement, and it was easy to guess her thoughts, Her face was so bright, so exited, so beautiful the way it was right then. But I sat there in horror, as I saw clusters of stars fall, Thousands of thousands of people, all being killed as we just watched.
I found myself crying, caught between to equally powerful sights. I cried in horror and fear of those being mass-murdered, And I cried because of the exited and beautiful look in her face and her eyes. I sat there for what felt like days, unsure what to do next.
I managed to amass the strength to stand. I walked to her, and wraped my arms around her waist. Her eyes are practically exploding out of her head as she marvals at this event, Marvaling, unbeknownst of the destruction of a race unfolding in front of her.
I deside to ignore the slaughter above me, Even as they continue fall. And when they finished falling, I noticed all but a few were left. And I hoped to myself that was not next.
