A Twin Tale
Chapter 1
The moon hung high in the soft velvet sky. I looked at my older twin with an unsure look. He smiled and said,” Now Davi this is what we do we’ll be fine.” Like so many times before we found ourselves looking up at an old mansion abandon, dark, and creepy. I tried to shake off the eerie feeling, as Vadeed head towards the door. “Wait!” I shouted as I ran up the stairs behind him.
I watched as Vadeed pried the door open. The loud pop from the wood breaking echo through the night as if time was standing still. The air turned heavy as if it laid on us like a blanket. The house was dark the only light was from our flashlights.
We step in onto the landing in front of the door. Long spiral stairs stood in front of us. I look at Vadeed, “You want to go up or look around down here?” He looked around as if he was confused, “Davi do you feel anything here?” I looked towards his voice and said, “not really it’s like the the house is sleeping.” See Vadeed and me were born with a gift to see visions of tragites of passed lives. It’s like stepping into the sprit realm itself. His Voice startled me when he spoke, “I guess we’ll start down here.” “I’ll take the kitchen if you want the back parlor,” I replied.
I listen to his footsteps fade to the back of the house. Then I started for the kitchen. We’ve done this so many times before why does it feel so different I thought to myself. I have must been lost in thought when I heard Vadeed calling for me. I headed towards his voice. “Are you upstairs?” I shouted. “Ya, I found something.” He shouted in reply.
I walked up the stairs which filled like they were never ending. He was standing in the middle of the hallway shinning his light at the ceiling. It looked as if someone had sealed the way to the attic. I know what was going to happen next before Vadeed even spoke. “Get me something to stand on.” He ordered. I looked around there was nothing we could use to stand on. “Hey, Deed you can lift me up maybe I can get it open.” I said shinning the flashlight in his face. He looked at me and nodded his head.
He wrapped his arms around my legs and lifted me up. I took a couple of times but I finally got the attic door open. “There’s no stairs.” I said.”So lift me up there then I’ll pull you up.” “Ok, but be careful.” He said as if he felt like it was a bad idea. I climbed into the attic and reached back for my brother. I pulled him up with no problems. We stood and to our surprise the attic was full of baby cribs. There had to be at least ten of them, we stood there in shock maybe from fear.
Vadeed was the first one to take a step. I grabbed his shoulder for support or just for comfort. This feeling came over me like we should have not been there. I looked at him trying not to cough from all the dust the disturbed. “ Deed, I still don’t feel anything.” “I know me neither he replied.” Before I could suggest that we leave Vadeed pulled the cover of one of the cribs. This loud shrill followed by this low rumble broke the silence. I felt the panic hit me like the pledge. The light from our flashlights danced around the room as we stood there in shock, trying to find the source of the noise.
Vadeed turned to me fast and with both hands shoved me with all his might. I fell through the door to the attic. It was so dark I couldn’t judge my fall. I hit hard then a loud thump followed. I looked up and babies poured of the attic like a river I jumped to my feet and ran right behind Vadeed. At the top of the stairs stood a shadow figure I noticed a little too late, as it reached for Vadeed.
I tried to grab Vadeed as he went tumbling down the stairs. He stopped about half way down. I helped him to his feet, as we made our way to the door. The evil I felt was over whelming. I was too scared to turn around. Afraid of what was following, this was like nothing Vadeed and me have ever dealt with before.
I stop in the yard my chest felt like it was going to burst. Vadeed put his arm around me and said,”Davi, you ok?” “Ya, I think so I replied, “lets just go home we’ll talk about it there.”
