“So, anything new happen in the past week?” An older woman, around 42, asked. She had short black hair, faded brown eyes and wore silver – sapphire glasses, giving her a look of intelligence. Her eyes peeked over her glasses, almost in a scowling manner to the other woman in the room, who sat in a chair across from her own. The other woman, who was around 32, had long brunette hair, which lightly touched her back. Her eyes were ice grey and held absolutely no emotion. Her skin was lightly tanned, which is very rare, being as in that they’re in Seattle. Her hands tightly grasped the arms of the chair, making it creak dangerously to the point in which it might break. Her rather revealing black shirt showed her muscles in her arms and her tight stomach, having been the pay off of years of chasing people down, both on foot and in mind.
She looked up at the raven-haired woman, giving her a glare that was almost capable of proving the theory of human combustion. They soon softened, showing a little evidence of remorse.
“Yes.” It was barely audible, but the woman heard it.
“Care to tell me ‘what’ exactly?” She pushed. Not a good move, as it made the brunette tense back up. She saw the brunette’s jaw tense; this was going to be a touchy subject.
“I… I saw her again, in my… in my dreams. She keeps… reaching… for me, and grabs my hand and won’t let go,” A few tears escape from her eyes, “then she… leans toward me, whispering, ‘You promised… you promised you won’t leave me, you promised to never let go, but, you’re not here, not holding me, like you said you would, you lied.’ She never lets go, at least, until I awake from the dream.” Her head was bent downward; the shine of her tears evident in the sunlight.
She raises her head back up, looking the raven-haired woman in the eyes.
“She won’t leave me Jaime. I don’t know what to do, and you’re the only person I can trust.” Jaime sighs.
“You’re damn lucky I’m a ******** therapist or else you’d be screwed.” The brunette laughs.
“No, I’m just lucky I had you as a friend for so long, or else you wouldn’t even considered listening to me.” Jaime smirks causing the brunette to smile along with her.
“Hey, that’s what friends do.” The brunette smirks.
“So, what’s it like being a cop and all? I can see it has some physical rewards.” Jaime asks, quite curiously.
“Huh? Oh, yeah, that’s what I get for being in Seattle for so long, catching bad guys and putting them behind bars, but let me tell you, those fatasses can run.” Jaime laughs.
“You were never did like running, you were more of a ‘takedown with your hands’ kind of person”
“Pssh, you’ve got that right, but I like tackling them then pushing their face into the ground, proving that I’m the dominant one.”
Jaime snorts causing the brunette to laugh aloud. Silence overtakes the air for a few moments, before Jaime cuts it.
“Have you talked to her at all since…?” She left the question open, not sure if she should finish it. The brunette looks out the window, losing herself in the morning sun.
“Since the whole fiasco in Tennessee? No, but she still tries to call yet she never leaves a voicemail.” Her eyes were still focused on the sun. They looked almost… lost.
Jaime takes a quick peek at her watch, then announces to the brunette.
“Hey, time’s up, you better get going or else-“ The brunette cuts her off.
“Or what?” A smirk is stretched across her face. Jaime scoffs.
“Leave Nikole, now, or you’ll make me lose my job.”
“Naw, you’re too good to lose your job… but you’re right, I gotta go, see you next week Ms. Paverneki.” She gets up to leave, quietly closing the door behind her.
Walking into the cool, crisp, autumn air of Seattle caused Nikole to shiver with delight. It brought back many good memories.
Walking down the sidewalk of the busy streets, Nikole thought she heard her name being called but didn’t give it much thought, so she continued to walk, but she soon heard it again and stopped in her tracks. She didn’t bother turning around, as in it might be someone calling to someone else, but then, she heard something…
“Brittany, please turn around.”
And so she did.
Her dreams came back full force. Then did the memories, the fights, the early morning wake-ups, the late nights… and she spoke.
“Mon Ange.”
