The Journal of Risu the Troll
Bringing you riddles from the Riddle Room since page 6148 . . .
Gorn's Riddle
The sail-turner's namesake,
I was studied by three,
Though one is more memorable.
That last lived in a sausage,
Or perhaps near one.
Alas, a single typo,
And I get a nickname
For the rest of my life.
Really, it's somewhat insulting.

Answer - Witch of Agnesi aka versiera

Guesses from 14402 - 14528

Clues: I think Seth has the best chance at this. After him, Andi.

Does the 'sausage' in the riddle refer to Frankfurt, Germany? No

Is it tangible?

randomnessensues:

The sail-turner's namesake, --& Original name was 'la versiera di Agnesi'. A versiera is a rope that turns a sail.
I was studied by three, --& "The curve was studied by Pierre de Fermat in 1630, Guido Grandi in 1703, and by Maria Agnesi in 1748."
Though one is more memorable. --& It's named after Agnesi.
That last lived in a sausage,
Or perhaps near one. --& She studied at the University of Bologna.
Alas, a single typo,
And I get a nickname
For the rest of my life. --& 'La versiera di Agnesi' was misread as 'l'avversiera di Agnesi' or 'the Witch of Agnesi.'
Really, it's somewhat insulting.
