My Story Part #3
The next morning, it was very unusual. I didn't really feel the same at all. I don't really know why, but I kind of felt, this presense. Everywhere I went. I felt as if someone was watching me. Sometimes that "invisible person" touched me. At least I thought. I knew that I really had to focus on my paperwork instead of silly things, so I shook the presense from my thoughts. I sat down at the kitchen table and began my paper work. As I was writing down blank words, I thought. I knew what I was writing down, but I really didn't pay attention to them. I always did my paperwork that way, But I really don't know why. So many things were on my mind, it was hard to control them. Feeding the dog, going on a walk, food, paperwork, my job, money, my house, and then I glanced at the clock. It'd been a half our since I started and I didn't get much done. I decided to stop to go on a breif walk. "Puppy! Come on, buddie, we're going on a walk." I called. I don't really call my dog by his name, because he doesn't really know it that well. So I just call him puppy. Pretty soon, I heard claws clicking on the hard woodfloors. Then, a chubby dog came into the kitchen with his tongue hanging out of his widely opened mouth. He was wagging his tail a mile a minute and he was whimpering with excitment. My companion and I walked to the door, I put on his leash and we headed out. I didn't lock my door because I trusted my neighborhood. I always left my door unlocked, so why start locking it now? We began walking on the cracked sidewalk. We passed many other people, a few dogs, some babies in strollers, even bike riders. Pretty soon we ended up at the edge of town. I did want a coffee, but I didn't bring my purse. "Sorry boy, we've gotta' head back now." I said as I gently tugged on his leash. He turned around, but as soon as he did, he saw a bunch of cats across the street. I didn't have a good hold on the leash, and when he took off running, the leash got ripped right out of my hand. "Buddie! NO!" I hollered. But he wouldn't listen. Everything happened so fast, the next thing I knew, I heard a horn honk and a few seconds later, my chubby dog was on the ground, in a pool of blood. I didn't know what to do. I stood there. Looking at the car, that had hit my dog. Looking at my dog, laying helplessly on the ground. Looking at the people around me, mouths hanging open. Then my eyes started getting blurry, and I soon found that I was crying. I ran to my dog, not sure what to do. I ran my hand along his side. He was breathing, but very slow. His eyes were opened wide, and he was whimpering. My mouth started moving but I wasn't sure what was coming out. "It's going to be ok. It's going to be alright, you're ok. I'm going to help you." Is what I thought I was saying. I felt a hand on my back, and I heard a voice say, "I'm so sorry! I didn't even see him! We can take him to the vet, c'mon, get in my car." I looked up, and saw a man, he had a concerned look on his face. He walked away for a second, but came back with a towel in his arms. He picked up my puppy slowly, and put him in the backseat. I followed him to the car and got in the passenger seat. He started driving, over the speed limit, to the vet's office. "I'm so sorry. I feel just aweful. I will pay for everything I owe you." He was saying. All I was doing is turning around and checking my dog. I started petting his face, and as i did, he licked my hand. I laughed and more tears ran down my face. "What if these are my last moments with him..." I thought. Sooner than I thought, we were at the vet's office. When we walked in, the nurse guided us to a room right away. The man explained what happened and then another man came in the room, the vet. He told me and the man that hit my poor dog, to wait in the waiting room. I sat down, and I thought of saying to the man, "He better be ok."
