Chapter 1- The Bridge

Ever since my older brother and I were little kids our father would always tell us that we were different from the others in the world. He's always said that everyone in the Locke Lynx family is different from others and that one day we'll learn what we really are and then we'd have to keep it a secret from everyone. We won't be able to reveal our secret to anyone. The secret that I learned once I was 16 two years ago.... the brutal and heart wrenching secret that I figured out when my brother Christopher just turned 17. My parents locked him in one of the family cells and left him there for two days, alone. Without any form of contact, with him screaming in pain and agony, no one was to go near him or the cell. I know this was hard on the family, wishing my brother a "Happy Birthday" from a far, not even able to see him, just listening to his painful cries and pleas to help him. I had no idea what was going on at the time, why they put Christopher there, why he was chained to the ground, and why he was crying and screaming. I know my brother doesn't cry easy so I knew he was in great pain... and I knew the same thing was gonna happen to me when I turned 17.
For two days we had to listen to him, asking for help and asking what's going on, occasionally I would hear him call out my name and ask for my help. That made me crazy cause no one would let me help him.
Once the two days past they unchained my brother and took him out of the cell. Out of all the family members I think I was the only one to approach him and ask what happened. He never gave me an answer just a glare and kept on walking with the other adults. For days he hasn't been himself. Every other night or so I could hear blood curling screams just like the first day he was put into the cell. But he would slowly but surely stop. After a month of this happening he stopped and returned to be the same Christopher I know, but he still had some habits that puzzled me. But then, it was my birthday. It was my turn to endure the pain that my brother had to feel for some reason unknown. And I finally knew why.
When they chained me down and locked the cells door I was engulfed in the darkness of the cell. Then it started, the floor where I was chained to started to glow an ominous purple color then I started hearing things. A chant like sound that wouldn't stop, voices started filling my head then I could feel my canine teeth starting to grow. Slowly the grew into points. The pain in my teeth was excruciatingly painful. But the voices at that chanting were just as worse. It was in my head, it wouldn't get out. It was driving me crazy. Two days have passed and I thought it was going to be over like how it was with Christopher, but I was wrong. Three more days have passed and the voices and chanting finally resided in my head, the ominous glow stopped and finally my family came for me. I finally knew how Christopher felt, but ten times worse since they didn't come for me like they did for Christopher. But after those five days the the rotting cell I knew what I was. I was a vampire. The being that haunts peoples nightmares and dreams. The blood sucking villain that always dies with a stake to the heart. The being that everyone hates. Everything that my brother and I went through on our 17th birthdays was hell.
Our father told us that's almost how humans feel when we vampires feed on their blood. Ever since then, we learned not to feed on humans, well not all of them.... just those who need to be punished and cannot be forgiven for a crime that they have committed. The time in the family cell was really brutal but it helped us realize that we can't just go out and bite someone, and also tell anyone our secret. Although it did come with the perks of being a vampire, like super powers and such. It's too bad that we can't show them in public. But my father is willing to tell our secret in time so we can live normal lives. And the way he's doing it is by opening an academy. An academy for beings, like my brother and me, and humans not to mention the beings such as centaurs and werewolves that live in humans dreams and nightmares. He believes that the academy can create a bridge that can allow the humans to see the real side of our kind and others like us, and allow us to live side by side peacefully and not in the shadows.
But there are some of our kind that won't allow this to happen. Vampires and other creatures will do anything in their power to stop my fathers plan, even if it means to kill him or one of the ones we've love or care about. "Life is a gamble" as Christopher says, "You can win or loose, the probability of loosing is high since most cheat to get you to loose."

-Now-

"Christopher!! Christopher! Oi! Christopher!!! Where are you?!?!?!" I yelled from the top of my lungs as I raced down the corridors of my home in search for my elder brother Christopher. Even though I know where he is in the morning I just like to annoy him by yelling. I reached the families library on the other side of the East building of our home, also known as a mansion, and began to yell Christopher's name through the door.
The door flung open and Christopher had a book in his hand. He always scowls at me whenever I do this to him. But I'm used to it.
His eyebrow begins to twitch, "What, do you want Kerberos?!" he growls deep in his throat as he starts to bare his teeth at me like an angry dog. His eyes were a dark blue color, signaling that he was very pissed off at me. I leered the other way, "Oh nothing, I was just wondering if you were ready for school." I smirked. Christopher groaned. "Idiot, the academy doesn't open till tomorrow, then grand opening is tonight." Christopher said as he leaned against the door way of the family library and opened his book that was in his hand. "You bore me, so go do something productive. I'm busy."
He's always like this when he's reading, but I don't really care.
I began walking away from him with shoulders slung forward until he called my name with curiosity. "Did you go to the shelter to pick up your 'pet' yet?" he asked.
That's right, I almost forgot! Our family went to one of the animal shelters in town and adopted a cat there. We aren't allowed to have a dog since my father is allergic to them, even though his name has "Fenris" in it and Fenris is another name for Fenrir- the wolf that was told to kill Odin by his father Loki during Ragnarok but was killed by Odin's son- which I find kinda stupid. Christopher likes cats and so does my mother, but I...... I'm deathly afraid of them.
I have no clue why but I guess that it's just because I was attacked by my aunts cat when I was a lot younger and ever since then I've been deathly afraid of cats.... yet we got one as a pet.
"Well?" Christopher asked with crooked eyebrows on his nearly expressionless face. I turned around to look at him, "Well, did you want to come with me?"
"No"
"But you're a lot better with cats then I am!"
"No, you wanted a pet, we chose a cat and that's final. Now go get it. Ask for a pet carrier when you get it so you don't have to touch it." Christopher barked. I groaned then started walking away again. Christopher has a one tracked mind most of the time. His mind is almost always on the history of things. He doesn't think of girls that often, unless one catches his attention, which is like... never. I wonder how he does that, since girls are always on my mind. Well actually there isn't any girl that I'm head over heels for, just find most of them attractive and that's it. I don't see how Christopher can't talk about girls, there's a lot of attractive girls in town. There's got to be one that catches his attention some how, and he's just not telling me. I'll figure him out one day.
Walking in town by myself is always boring. Normally I would have Christopher with me while we walk so I don't look like ab idiot by myself. Hmm, compared to most of the people in town, now that I think about it, Christopher is probably the palest person here. His skin is like a faded color of old lace. He doesn't look anything like me and the other members on my family. His hair is like a lemon color that's very bright when the sun his behind him. He has blue eyes that can send shivers down ones spine when his face is expressionless, which is almost always like that. The face that the girls in town love, my brothers face. A face of a killer, a killer that's a vampire. If the rules say we could feed on any human I think Christopher would kill a lot of humans since most are attracted to him. Most of the time we can't help ourselves when there is a human attracted to us, their blood just smells so good, and the feeling of attraction just brings us closer to them, then the next thing we know, we're feeding off of them. This has happened a few times after Christopher and I had become vampires, a few like 2 or 3.
Anyway, I made it to the shelter, only to be looked at by some women who commented me on how I looked. The shelter was a top notch place. The entrance was very clean and the marble that framed it was glistening in the sun. The granite that was the build of the building was very smooth and clear that it was like looking at a mirror. I walked into the glass like building, although it was made out of expensive stones, and I was amazed with how clean it was. But it was empty. No one was at the front desk or in the office. The place was like a ghost town, except for the barking of the dogs that inhabited the shelter in their kennels. I called for the owner, Talenne. Talenne is one of my father's closest friends, next to a Forrest Alabaster Vladimir, someone who I haven't met yet. "Talenne! You here?" I called out for him.
"Sorry, Talenne is out right now." a female voice said coming from where the kennels were located. A bit startled, I looked over to where the kennels are and a girl, about 5'5" or so stepped out of one of the kennels.
She was pretty cute, she has a tanish-pink tone to her skin and dark sienna hair. Her eyes were two different colors which puzzled me a little, her right eye was gold and the other eye was a bright violet color. Against her skin and hair color her eyes were bright and friendly, compared to Christopher's. Her body was slender but kept the right curves. I've never seen her before. I could remember every face in the town but her's, I haven't seen until now. For some reason she made me blush. Could it be her sweet appearance or something else.
"Can I help you?" she asked as her eyes met mine. I turned my head so she couldn't see my face flush red, yet she tried to connect our eyes again. "Is there a problem?" she asked, her voice very curious. "No, no. No problem at all! I was just looking for Talenne." I said. I could see a small smirk grow on her face from the corner of my eye. She shook her head, "Sorry but Talenne isn't here. Come back tomorrow an--" she stopped, gently cupped my face with her small hands, and turned my head toward her. She looked into my eyes and I did the same with her. I began to blush again as I stared into her gold and violet eyes which seemed to hypnotize me as each second passed, she began to smile, "You're Cain aren't you?" she asked with bright eyes. I nodded and she let go of my face. She smiled sweetly, "Talenne told me about you, he said that you're gonna come down to the shelter and pick up the cat that your family adopted a few days earlier." she said with her eyes shining brightly in the florescent lighting.
I nodded again in response. Words wouldn't come out of my mouth for some reason, could it be that this girl left me speechless?
She grabbed my hand and started toting me over to where the cats are being held, "Oh, by the way, my name is Riefaa Ruby Alice Andersen. Nice to meet you Mr.Locke Lynx The Third." She had a slight joking tone when she called me "Mr.Locke Lynx The Third".
"So, how long have you lived in Myth?" she asked with curiosity as she let go of my hand and took out a pair of keys. She inserted one of the many keys that she had on the keyring and opened the door that confined the cats.
"Oh, I've lived here ever since I was little. And you?"
"Me, heh, my adoptive father and I just moved here yesterday. When Talenne heard that my father and I were moving here he asked as soon as we got into town, 'When can she start?'" she began to laugh at her horrible impersonation of Talenne. Talenne's voice is pretty gruff but compared to her voice it was like bricks rubbing closely against each other. I found it a bit funny at her attempt so I laughed a little.
"Well here he is. Leo-chan." Riefaa said as she opened one of the cats cages. "Heeehhhh, he doesn't really look like a normal cat, but I think he's pretty cute! Take good care of him okay?" she smiled. Her eyes seemed to sadden as she picked up the strange looking feline.
"Are you okay?" I asked.
She perked up as if she were coming out of a day dream, "Huh? Oh! Yeah, I'm fine. I'm just gonna miss the little guy is all." she told me as her voice faded. Riefaa looked a bit down, as if she's going to depart with Leo forever. I smiled as a thought came to mind, "Hey, what about you come with me to take Leo to my house and then you can say goodbyes to him there!" I suggested.
She looked at me as if I were crazy, "You're not going to..... do something to me if I go there, right?" she asked curious with what my answer was. I began to flush red as I tried to explain myself about not thinking of doing anything to her if she were to come drop Leo off at my house.
Gee, for a girl who looks innocent and sweet she sure dose have a odd way of thinking things......
She started to laugh at me, "Sorry, if I could I would've but I have to take care of the other pets here, well till Talenne gets back." she said as she closed Leo's old cage with the side of her hip. She tried handing me Leo but I backed away with my hands in front of me. "Um, can I get a pet carrier for him?" I asked.
On the way home with my new pet Leo in the pet carrier that Riefaa gave me I kinda felt strange for some reason. Like something was missing. I had no clue what it was but I had to try to forget the feeling and think about the grand opening for the academy tonight. There was a lot of things to do. First of all I had to make sure Leo won't get in any trouble while the guest come to our mansion for the opening ceremony.
Secondly, I had to make sure that my clothes where all ready for it.
Thirdly, Christopher and I had to find something to feed on before the party, and that doesn't mean human is on the menu.... hmmmm, maybe a raccoon or something?
Lastly we had to make sure everything was in tip top shape for the guest, then again that's what butlers and maids are for. God bless the ones that we fed on that one Halloween night a year ago....... Not our faults, they snuck up on us when we were looking for something to feed on and then next thing you know they're dead...... father wasn't too pleased about it.
At home I came to a surprise.
Christopher, finally outside of the mansion for once, started telling the decorators and caterers where everything should go. Although he didn't even take his locked eyes off his book, he just pointed at a direction and the decorator or caterer went in that direction.
I watched for a little till Christopher called my name in an irritated manner. I rushed over to him not even caring to use the sidewalk.
"What's up bro?" I asked as I began to pant from the sprint that I just did. He slams his book shut closed, closed his eyes and sighed, "I'm going back inside, take over for me." he said as he took the pet carrier that contained Leo in it. I started to complain about what kind of task he just left me with. Christopher was about to walk away until he asked, "Cain. Where's the cat?"
I looked at him puzzled, "It's in the carrier."
"No, it's not."
"Yes it is! Check for yourself! Your eyes aren't even open so how can you know?!"
Christopher turned his head to me and opened his eyes. His blue eyes turned a dark blue color as he glared straight at me. He brought the pet carrier up to my face with the carrier cage door facing me. No Leo in the carrier. Christopher flung the carrier across the front lawn and it crashed into the main gate. He gripped my shirt collar, "Find him. If father realizes that it's missing he'll murder both of us. This is the grand opening night for the academy.
Everything needs to go according to plan or else we'll be shut down by the vampire council and the school board! And you know what happens next? Father's dream of having beings like us live side by side with the humans will go down the drain, and we'll have to hide in the shadows once again! And those who want to stat the war for territory with the humans will get what they want!" Christopher raised me up off the ground with my toes still being able to touch the floor. He was furious. His expression was like a rouge vampires. Blood lust and death filled his eyes. He looked at me with no mercy. "Find him now before I kill you." He threatened, teeth bared. He let go of me and I fell to the ground with a loud thud.
This is the Christopher I knew when he was first changing into a vampire. He threatened people which wasn't like him at all. This was me when I was changing too.
I got up and dusted myself off, "I hope he was joking." I told myself as I looked to the direction that Christopher walked off into. I kicked the ground, "Damn it! Where'd that cat go..." I asked myself. No decorator or caterer came my way after Christopher's little out burst.
I began my search for the small little cat which Riefaa has called Leo. A little cat that has the same color fur as my hair which is a bistre color but with white patches on his body. Long ears with feather like fur at the tips which are a red shade color. big glowing red eyes that have no pupils, or so I think. A jewel that acts as a crown on it's forehead and black wings that detach from its small slender body that can move swiftly like a ghost as Riefaa showed me back at the shelter. Ghost...
I've got it! Maybe, just maybe, Leo is like a ghost and can pass through objects, such as the carrier! Well that's my theory. Now I need to try and think like a cat. Heh.... cats....
Two hours have passed since my search for Leo began. I've been finding little clues about where his where-bouts could be. My theory was correct about how he can pass through objects since I've been able to find little cat foot prints that lead to a wall and then disappear. Hmm, could it be that this little cat, Leo, is actually a ghost? Who knows.
Finally my search came to a close as I find that the little cat is actually asleep on my bed. I decided to leave it some food and water just in case it gets hungry when he wakes up. I began to cat proof my room, rearranging things and making it seem more fun so Leo doesn't get bored. Heh, who knew having a cat could be fun.
It's soon noon and I spend the rest of the day helping out with making the mansion look ready for the guest. They should all be coming around 5 so that gives us enough time to prepare. I wondered the corridors of the main building and saw that it was in a complete transformation. It looked like a grand ball room, nothing like the old cross road section of the house. I hope we'll keep it like this.
"Kerberos." a familiar low, dull tone called my name as I leaned forward onto the gold colored banister. I looked over to see who called my name, but I already know since he's the only one who calls me by my middle name. Christopher. Christopher was already dressed in his evening clothes that he's going to wear to the grand opening of the academy. Which consist of a red shaded trench coat, his white dress shirt and black slacks. Compared to his clothes he looked a lot more classier than me. He looked a lot less tense and much more calmer than he was before. "What's up?" I asked confused with his sudden change in attitude.
Normally it would take about 10 hours for him to settle down.
He looked over the banister and down to where all the decorators were all fixing the new ball room. "Hmm, looks nice doesn't it?" he complimented on the work of the decorators. I blinked and cleared my throat, "Oh, yeah. They did and excellent job on it." I relaxed on the banister while I noticed Christopher grip it. He sighed and looked forward with his head held him.
Christopher always wants to to look very noble and proud of himself. He even keeps his head high when he's troubled. It's like he doesn't have any kind of weakness.
"I'm sorry." He apologized. My eyes widened, "For what?" I asked.
He looked at me, still no sadness in his eyes, just the same expressionless face as always, "I'm sorry for threatening you earlier. I guess I just didn't want anything to go wrong. I wanted everything to be perfect." He said his head finally down looking at his hands as they grip the side of the banister. "Don't worry about it! I found Leo and everything wi---"
"It's not about Leo!" He cuts me off. "It's about me. I was being so selfish that I threatened my younger brother to kill him if he didn't find a stupid cat." he said as he slammed his fist on the banister. The force of his fist dented the banister and it began to shake. I felt the shock of the impact go through me, it was a very weird kind of feeling. It was like hitting a large bell and being inside of it as it rang. "Oh, probably shouldn't have done that." he said as he let go of the banister and wiped his hands on his trench coat. "Hey, don't worry. I'm fine. You don't have to blame yourself bro. Seriously. I don't care if you kill me, I'd rather be killed by one of the most powerful vampires that I know than anyone or thing else." I said as I put my hand on his shoulder. Christopher turned his head, "Sorry can't say the same for you...." he mumbled. "What?!" I exploded. Christopher began to laugh out loud. For the first time in two years, this is the time I heard him laugh out loud like that. Smiling and laughing like that, I never knew he could do that.
He kept on laughing for a little the shortly slowed it down. He ran his fingers through the bangs of his hair and just kept the crooked smile on his face as he stopped his laughter. "Heh, so I'm guessing you were kidding?" I chuckled.
"No," The low dull tone returned to his voice and his eyes went back to being cold. "I was serious." He cracked a crooked smile and began walking in the same direction as he came from.
"Get dressed. You look like a commoner." He advised me.
Gah! I hate it when he does things like that, then again, he is my brother and that's the way he treats me. I don't mind, I kinda got used to it. "Come on, Kerberos. We have to feed before the guest arrive."

Time for the grand opening. The atmosphere is just as it were to be in some kind of Cinderella ball, ew. The music was pretty decent, Mozart, Beethoven and other famous compositions were played. Everyone's so merry and enjoying themselves, not even knowing that they could be talking to a werewolf, vampire or any other kind of creature in disguise. All our guest look very dashing and beautiful. I'm all dressed up in something similar to Christopher's outfit but I wore an unbuttoned coat unlike him. Leo was being well behaved, I guess he was just looking for a place to crash, and decided to stay in my room. That's a relief, I wouldn't want to see Christopher's bad side again. That was pretty scary, just looking into his predator possessed eyes was very frightening, even for me.
Christopher and I just wandered around the ball room looking at all the people who came to the grand opening. Still not to my amazement, Christopher doesn't seem interested in any of the girls there.
"So these are our could be classmates.... hmmm what an ugly bunch they all are. They all seem to bore me, none catch my eye. They don't even seem like they taste good. They all seem fake, even the other vampires here." Christopher mumbled as he leaned against a pillar and crossed his arms. "Aw come on bro! The party is just starting! I'm pretty sure there's got to be a girl in this crowd for you!" I put my arm around his shoulder, "Look, all these beautiful people going to the same academy as us, it'll be perfect! But then again they aren't as good looking as us." I told him with a crooked smile. He brushed my hand off his shoulder, "You sound drunk. No there is no one here for me. They are all ugly and the don't look appetizing." he said as he moved away from me. I looked at him with disbelief as he turned his head away from my direction. "Is there anything other thoughts you have for girls besides saying that they don't look good enough to feed on?" I asked as my eyebrow began to twitch.
"Che!" was all I got from him.
"Ah! There you boys are! I've been looking everywhere for you!" Our father's sore voice called out from behind us. We stared in the direction of where he called us from and waited till he was in our sight.
Our father is an old jolly man, he's pretty old for a vampire but that never stopped him from throwing any sort of party. He has a gray beard that almost makes him look like a nearly transformed werewolf. He looks more like me with the basics such as eye color, hair color and height, yet he shares the same Christopher. I find it kind of ironic that I look like my father and Christopher looks like our deceased uncle, yet I have my uncles name and he has our fathers. I was told by my mother before she passed on that my father looked like both me and Christopher combined but he lost that look when he realized that my mother was having two kids.
My father burst from the huge crowd of people that occupied the dance floor. "There you boys are, come come! I want you to meet a very old friend of mine!" He said in a merry tone. He got me and Christopher to patiently wait for him to come back with his friend.
It was a few minutes till he came back with a large pale man about 6'3" or so. His face was serious as if he meant business and nothing more. He was very intimidating, even for Christopher. His eyes were a gold color and shone bright. He had two hair colors, white and black, the black seemed to outline the white in small short spikes. This kind of made him look like a porcupine. He looked too young to be my father's "Old Friend".
"Boys I would like you two to meet my closest friend Forrest Alabaster Vladimir." My father said in a merry tone. Christopher and I formally greeted ourselves to the tall giant and took turns shaking his huge hands. His grip was very strong, could this man be a vampire too?
Most likely since he's an old friend of my father and he doesn't look old like my father, heh her even has a vampiric name, Forrest Alabaster Vladimir. Not to also mention that he has a very strong grip, but then again that could be from a lot of weight lifting. He was very burly to be old.
Forrest cleared his throat, "You boys seem well behaved. Seems safe enough for you two to meet my daughter."
Well behaved?
Seems safe?
What the...... is his daughter 6 or something?
"Ruby Alice!" Forrest voice boomed over the crowd of people who were dancing on the ball room floor.
That name seems familiar. I wonder where I heard it from.
"Oh, by the way, my name is Riefaa Ruby Alice Andersen. Nice to meet you Mr.Locke Lynx The Third."
Then, the same girl I met at the animal shelter came forward from the crowd. My eyes widened when I saw her. Riefaa's mouth dropped as she saw me.
"YOU!!" The two of us said simultaneously as we pointed at each other. Forrest and my father looked at each other with no clue with what's going on, Christopher just started at Riefaa as if he was pained but wasn't trying to show it. "You two know each other?" My father asked me. I nodded as I continued to point at Riefaa who still kept the same expression she had when she just saw me a few seconds ago.
I have to admit, she looked a lot different from when she was in her work clothing. Riefaa looked very authentic in the red and black yukata that she's wearing with the huge red bow in the back. She's very lolita.
The two of us nodded our head simultaneously and stopped our little out of nowhere outbursts of seeing each other. My father burst out laughing, "This is perfect! I was originally going to let Cain here dance with young Ruby Alice and get to know her since they're almost the same age but since they already know each other," father paused and mumbled for a bit till he figured out what he was going to say, "Christopher!" Christopher stepped forward still looking a bit pained but managing to do his best to keep a straight face. "Christopher, would you like to dance with Ruby Alice?" Father asked. Christopher looked at him in amazement, "Yes! I mean," he began to bumble like an idiot. He clears his throat, "I would be honored to." he said in his regular dull voice. My eyes widened with amusement and I could feel a large grin coming over my face. The grin stopped and began to turn into a frown for some reason. I was happy that it looked like Christopher was happy but I don't know why my smile turned into a frown.I saw Christopher take Riefaa's hand and they both smiled at each other. Christopher stopped next to me and whispered "You were right." to me as he and Riefaa walked onto the ball room floor. They joined the crowd of people who were waltzing to the music. They began their dance.
I watched on the sidelines with my father and Forrest and honed in on their conversation. They were talking about the academy and if it would really be safe to use it as a bridge for humans and other beings to live with. I've heard the two discussing the ways of telling the humans that they've been attending an academy that has vampires and other creatures in it. For awhile their conversation was entertaining but began to be dull like Christopher's voice.
Christopher....
I turned my attention to the crowd on the dance floor, especially Riefaa and Christopher. I noticed that they were dancing to Beethoven's Rondo for piano and orchestra. For the first time that I've ever seen Christopher dance with someone and smile about it, he's kept the same smile he's had ever since the time my father asked if he would like to dance with Riefaa. He was enjoying the dance and being with her, I began to wonder what they were talking about that could make Christopher laugh, yet keep the same bright eyes that he had.
Just watching my brother dance with the elegant little Riefaa I began to think of this as the happiest moment of my life. Can't get anymore selfish as that! Ha! Although, I do feel a bit...... jealous. Heh wow, I Cain Kerberos Locke Lynx The Third, jealous over a girl. Ha, can't be....
I leaned against the pillar that used to support Christopher's back and sighed. "Oh? Cain is something the matter?" my father asked. Alarmed with my father's sudden interest in me I told him nothing and that he should just continue talking with Forrest. Then something came to my attention.
"Um, Mr.Vladimir? Sir?"
"Yes Cain?" he asked as he faced himself toward me.
I began to rethink my question since he was very intimidating. I think it was just his height and his burliness that intimidated me.
With a deep breath I asked, "Ruby Alice correct? Why did she introduce herself as Riefaa Ruby Alice Andersen to me when I first met her at the shelter this morning? Yet you call her Ruby Alice." Forrest put his hand to his chin, "Well Ruby Alice was the name I gave her when I adopted her a few years ago. Her real name was Riefaa Andersen but I call her Ruby Alice since I've always wanted a daughter named that. She hasn't been with me long enough to be called Vladimir and I don't think I would want to give her that last name since it doesn't really suit a vampire hybrid like herself." he chuckled. "Adopted huh?" I mumbled to myself, "A hybrid too."
I began to think of her more every time I looked at her smiling face enchanted with Christopher.
She doesn't really look like a vampire hybrid, let alone a vampire, then again she doesn't need to look like a vampire to be a hybrid of one.
The song ended and Christopher and Riefaa returned to where my father, Forrest and I waited. The two looked very engrossed with the conversation that they were having before they came back to us. Riefaa thanked Christopher for the dance and Christopher couldn't find the two words that he wanted to say to her which were "You're welcome."
"Alright, you kids should go to the garden and hang out there since I know you wouldn't want to listen to your old man talk about the academy." Father suggested to us. Riefaa looked at her Forrest and he nodded. My father gave the three of us the signal to leave. We left on command.
The garden was transformed with many lights that looked a bit like Christmas lights but that didn't bother us. The garden was just beautiful one way or another. The trees were perfectly trimmed and so were the bushes. The statues of Cerberus, Fenrir and Fenrir's sons where perfectly polished, down to every last detail. The maid, butlers, and decorators did an amazing job with the getting the entire mansion ready for the opening. Although the fountain as turned off though which was a very big disappointment, it looks really pretty when there. I'm surprised that no one else beside the three of us were the only ones here.
"AH! You guys have a really pretty garden!" Riefaa said as she raced back and forth through the garden arch that was flourishing with bright pink and red roses. Her face was bright as she looked ran around the garden with her arms out like she was a little child that was pretending to be an airplane. "It's a lot better than the small garden that we have on our windowsill at home!" Riefaa laughed out loud, "Actually it's a million times better than our garden!"
"I'm pretty sure it's not that bad, I'm pretty sure that it's cute." I said as I chuckled at her as she continued to run about. She stopped and sat on the edge of the fountain, "Haha! You're funny! If you think that a small garden with the majority of the plants dead is cute then you're just really silly!" She laughed as she rocked back and forth on the edge of the fountain. "Hey, why isn't the fountain on?" she said as she looked at the fountain, "I'm pretty sure that it's cute when it's on." She mocked me. Amazingly she nailed my voice unlike Talenne's voice that she attempted at the shelter. Christopher chuckled, "She got you Kerberos."
"Stuff it!" I growled to him. "Aw come on Cain! I was just joking. To tell the truth I kinda got obsessed with your voice when you first showed up at the shelter that I started trying to mimic your voice ever since ya left! That's why I almost nailed your voice!" She smiled as she got up and pranced happily toward me and poked me on the shoulder, "And your voice is next Fen-kun!" she winked at Christopher. Christopher blushed a bright pink color that shone easily on his pale skin. Riefaa and I began to laugh, "Aww! You're blushing! Don't tell me that your starting to fall for me, ne Fen-kun?"
He turned his head to the side away from Riefaa and me, "Ha, of course not. You don't look appetizing anyway. You're too perky for me." he smirked. Riefaa ran up to him, "You sure about that?" she titled her head with a smile, Christopher looked at her confused. "Go on! Bite me!" My eyes and his widened immensely. "Are you serious?" he asked.
Okay, right now I'm thinking that this girl is either crazy or just plain psycho, she's telling Christopher to bite her. That's just crazy! Christopher could easily kill her, vampire hybrid or not, she'd die within minutes of Christopher sinking his fangs into her!
"Of course not!" she said in a happy tone as she returned to the edge of the fountain to sit, "It's the same for all of us. Fangs piercing through bare skin, nothing to protect it. The fangs will pierce almost everything, fangs will always find a way to get what it wants. The creatures blood. Just by breaking the prey's skin, puncturing two holes that ooze blood as we begin to feed, leaving our trade mark punctures. Every living thing goes through the same hell like feeling when vampires feed on them. Even other vampires. The pain of the fangs just going through your neck, as if it was going to cut off your oxygen supply is like, like ah! I don't know how to explain! But you get my point right?"
Christopher and I looked at her mouths agape. "That was deep....." Christopher said as if he were in a trance. Riefaa stuck her tongue out, "Haha, that's what my dad says too! He says I can be a deep person, heh whatever that means!" She smiled. She looked to the statues of the great hell hounds that we have located near the entrance of the garden. "What's the story behind evil and eviler over there?" she asked in a joking way. "Oh the statues of the hell hounds Cerberus, Fenrir and Fenrir's sons?" I asked. She nodded.
"You see Cerberus represented our uncle, Cain Kerberos Locke Lynx The Second who died a few years earlier, before we were born." I explained to her. She apologized for bring up the subject but Christopher told her it was alright and that she was just curious. "The Fenrir you see represented our father, Christopher Fenris Locke Lynx The Third, and we were supposed to represent Fenrir's children, Hati and Skoll. Those statues were made before our uncle died. Originally we were to be named after Hati and Skoll but my father said that the Cerberus statue would go to waste so one I was born I was named after him. Christopher Fenris Locke Lynx The Third. And Kerberos here was named after our uncle. So now the statues represent us, Cerberus as Kerberos and Fenrir as me." Christopher explained not giving out all the detail cause I know he noticed the somewhat confused look on Riefaa's face. "Oh! I see now! That's awesome! But why didn't you get rid of the Hati and Skoll statues?" she asked curious once again. "Because father wants Christopher here to have two kids while I die a virgin." I joked. We laughed for a while then ceased our conversations to catch our breaths from all the laughing.
My father's voice could be heard from inside the mansion as he gave his very long speech about opening the academy. Leaving hints on what he was going to do with revealing the identities of the creatures and beings that attend.
"So, how's Leo-chan?" Riefaa asked tilting her head to the left. "Oh he's fine, he's in my room probably playing with the toys and such that I left for him." I said as I began to remember all the things that I left in my room for the little Leo. "By the way, why didn't you tell me about his little 'disappearing' acts?" I asked her with my hands on my torso. Riefaa hit her small hand that she made into a fist onto her head and stuck her tongue out, "I'm sorry I guess I forgot, and I wasn't sure if you'd still adopt him if I did tell you, I'm sorry." she apologized in a sad way. "Oh no it's fine! We enjoy having him and his disappearing acts! We find it amusing!" Christopher lied right through his teeth. I rolled my eyes.
"Ne, I was just wondering, sorry for all these weird questions by the way, I'm just want to know a few things about my new friends!" Riefaa giggled. "Oh! No problem, we don't mind!" Christopher and I said simultaneously. The two of us exchanged quick glares before hearing out Riefaa's question. "Heh, sounds almost like you guys are twins! But anyway, how long have you two been vampires? My father told me not for a very long time and that confused me for some reason cause he told me that you two were full blooded vampires. Well you don't have to answer if you don't want to." Riefaa said in a sweet melodic tone, it was much different than the tone she used when she was running about the garden. "Well Christopher was a vampire before me, he was one month before me. So right now, it's been a year that both of us have been vampires. For me and Christopher we went through a transformation and that's how we became what we are now. In the Locke Lynx family we don't become vampires till we come to the age of 17." I told her. Christopher walked over to the bench that was in front of the
fountain and sat down near Riefaa, "And you? How long have you been a vampire?" Riefaa sat all the way onto the fountain's flat surface, just a bit above of where the water should be, "Well I don't know, I don't remember anything. I can only remember great pain and not waking up till my father came and picked me up from somewhere which is like a blur to me. But I knows that I was just adopted at the time. So~, I have no clue! Haha!" She laughed.
"You really are a cheery girl aren't you?" I commented. She nodded her head. Quiet came upon us again. I noticed Christopher eye something from the corner of his eye, this sparked my interest. "What's up bro?" I asked. Riefaa raised her head and looked in Christopher's direction.
"I think we aren't alone in the garden. I feel like there's something here, something... menacing." He said as he lowered his tone. He began to glare, his blue eyes began to turn dark blue like it did before when he threatened me. The eyes that I always fear. The three of us stopped our conversations and tried to focus on what was bugging Christopher. Riefaa closed her eyes and inhaled, "It's a werewolf." she said under her breath as she exhaled. "A werewolf? But the werewolves that are attending the grand opening are all here." Christopher said as he looked up at the tense Riefaa.
"Well looks like we have a party crasher then." She said as she jumped down from the fountain and began to open and close her fist. Christopher got up from the bench with his eyes still fixed on where he was staring before. I walked up next to them and stood ready for a fight if that werewolf that's crossing onto our property wanted to fight. I'm ready to defend my father's bridge no matter what. I won't allow anyone or anything destroy it, and I'm betting my life on it.
"Show yourself! Werewolf!"
