Child-like, simple-minded, and with a complete disregard for human life, Gluttony roams the land with only one objective -- to eat. He is a heavy, squat man who can always be found in the close company of Lust. In his simplistic mind he sees her as an older sister to look up to, or perhaps even the mother figure he never had. Gluttony is capable of reaching great altitudes with his high jumps and enduring stamina. He also possesses abnormal strength in his massive arms and powerful jaws, which he tends to use to bite through stone, metal, and flesh. His only pleasure in battles is in the hope he will be able to eat his opponent afterwards. He himself has confessed to his allies his favorite meal are "little soft girls". Gluttony was created by Father as nothing more than an experiment for creating the Gate of Truth. The countless humans he ate over the centuries would serve as the main ingredient for opening a Gate. Although this ultimately failed, Gluttony still earned a few new properties worthy of a true Gate of Truth. At will, he can rip his chest open exposing a large black void where his stomach should be. Surrounded by sprawling ribs is a giant eye (similar to those in the Gate) which shoots forth a beam capable of swallowing anyone and anything. Gluttony used this technique to swallow Edward Elric, Ling Yao, and (accidentally) Envy into his stomach, where an endless dark and wet wasteland awaited them. Gluttony's Ouroborus mark is located in the middle of his tongue.
=== SPOILERS ===
Somewhere within the southern forests, Gluttony came to the aid of his brother Pride in capturing Alphonse Elric. After a costly battle with the resistance; the homunculus died numerous times, severely depleting his own Philosopher's Stone. Pride took note of this; and after asking Gluttony how many times he had died, he devoured the dying Gluttony using his special powers. This gave Pride what little strength was inside of his brother's stone. Ironically, Gluttony met his end being eaten by another.
=== End of Spoilers ===
In the original anime, Gluttony is very close to his manga counterpart. He was created for the same purpose by Dante and travels the country at Lust's side. He does seem to take her death much harder in this version, shattering his mind with grief. Convinced he has no emotions and is merely misbehaving, Dante uses her alchemy to completely erase his mind, leaving him as nothing more than a savage beast. As pure gluttony incarnate, he now sees everyone as food and goes after his own master, murdering the woman who gave him life.
