When I am asked if people can help with with anything, I can't come to think of things, so I've given the better answers of "Do your visiting/home teaching" or recently "More Dates in the ward". These things don't have to personally impact me, but they are something that they can do to make the world a better place for other people.
When it comes down to what I want, I want to get married to a great and loyal guy, settle down and have kids. That is what I want. Since it's not something that people can just go out and buy for me, I can go for other things.
What I would like, but would never ask anyone to buy for me: Impact background support system item #IMBGSS12 $99.95 (available at www.bhphotovideo.com) 5-in-1 portable reflectors 42" collapsible disc #IMR5142 $59.95 (available at www.bhphotovideo.com) Crumpler Brazillion Dollar Home Black #CRBDGMBKOR $280.00 (available at www.bhphotovideo.com)
What Do I really ask for? smaller less expensive things, books that I would buy, money for gas... Some people think I'm made of money, but the truth is that I watch how I spend my money. I've had my current job for 2 years now, after my first paycheck I have paid for all of the gas that has gone into my car, unless I have asked for my parents to pay for it, and then I pay them back, within a month. I have one credit card, that I could carry around, but they pay the bill associated with that card, I'm on their account, so, unless I have permission, I don't use it. It sits at home, and when I go to use it, I ask first. They can say no, in which case that card remains where it hides, at home. They don't pay for my gas, and I don't expect them to pay it. I had to work out a payment plan for repairs on the car that I drive, they paid, but I have to pay them so much money each paycheck until the debt is paid off. I even elected to pay them more then they expected just to get it paid off earier. And when it comes to needing a new car, you can believe that I'm going to have to pay for that out of my own pocket. and seeing as I'm driving around a 13 year old car, it may wind up that I will need to get a new car in the next several years, it may even delay my ability to move out, but guess what, I am willing to do that to keep driving a car.
Now what do other people want? they want everything... One person I know has one really good DSLR camera, and then goes out and got a point and shoot camera. She also wants more things, things that I can't afford, but she thinks that I can afford. If I let her force me into buying the fabric for one project, letting her pick out the fabric for it, then it will most likely cost me in materials alone around $75... that's three $25 cash cards. If you say that you will help someone make an item, does that mean that you are under obligation to provide the material as well?
