The Man in the Moon
I just watched The Man in the Moon this past Sunday and I'm not really quite sure what to think of it. If any of you have watched it, do you get what I mean? It was a weird movie, like nothing I've ever seen before, honestly. For those of you who haven't heard of it, read on...

This is Reese Witherspoon's first movie, so it was filmed in 1991 but it's set in rural Louisiana in 1957.Here, I found this review of the movie online (not my words):

"After an introductory shot of the full moon, this teenage coming-of-age story opens with sisters Dani, 14 (Reese Witherspoon, in her first starring role), and Maureen, 17 (Emily Warfield), saying they will always talk to each other. Their mother used to say tell your problem, in full detail, to the man in the moon. Then you'll have the answer in the morning.

Dani, approaching a sexual awakening, and Maureen both fall in love with the hunky new 17-year-old neighbor Court. Dani meets him first, but Court romantically prefers Maureen, who wants to follow her feelings but doesn't want to tear the close sisterly bond. Don't expect a Hollywood happy ending, and not just because filming was in rural Louisiana. Tragedy ensues, but under the circumstances the ending is as good as would be possible, closing with another shot of the full moon."

It was a very good movie but it was odd. I was left feeling confused, sad, strange, happy, and angry. It was definitely not your typical romance-drama movie. This movie has it all though: mild language, suggestive themes, mild violence, blood and gore, one scene of child abuse, and much, much more! A great film for the entire family! Make sure your parents are out before watching this one, kids. wink
