Sorry I haven't written in here in a while. Stuff has been happening. Unfortunately, none of it is anything that I want. I'll leave it that brief as that "stuff" need not be left up to the reader's imagination for an extended period of time. Anyway...
I've been watching the Top 7 (which is now there for two weeks straight until tonight...when two people get taken out back eliminated).
Here's my opinions on these guys:
Kris Allen: I'm writing about this guy first, since I'm listening to his version of Donna Summer's "She Works Hard For The Money." So far (as he has through this competition), he has failed to impress me as well as, say, Adam Lambert or Allison Iraheta. He just sort of comes off as "meh" to me.
Lil Rounds: What can I say? She's from the Memphis area like I am. Heck, her home was destroyed by the Super Tuesday Tornado back in February 2008. But I'm a little unnerved by the fact that everyone is telling her to "be herself" and to "find herself as an artist," which is kinda hard when your musical forte is R&B, soul and gospel and your song choices on the show clearly reflect that. I think she can get a record deal, but I'm still wondering how far she can go before she finally buckles under the pressure. Oh, and Simon? He can go sit down about Disco Week being her last week here, after she belted out "I'm Every Woman" by Chaka Khan.
Danny Gokey: I like his voice, but it's not like I'm really crazy for him. I still feel all that "Oh, he's talking about the death of his wife, he wants the judge's sympathy so that he can move on" crap was really, really unnecessary. But I'm starting to like him more, especially after his vocals on the group performance of "Maniac" from last week. And he still hasn't been up for elimination yet, so it should be interesting to see what's next in his bag of tricks.
Allison Iraheta: Oh, god. This. She's 16, and she's...16?!? Seriously, I've loved her since she performed Heart's "Alone" in the semi-finals, and she's only 16? Who else had pipes that impressive at 16...lessee...nope, can't think of anybody. I find it impressive that she's been in the Bottom 3 twice, the second of which (the iTunes downloads) I think she deserved, since her rendition of "Don't Speak" by No Doubt disappointed me a little bit and she was caught dead wearing something that made her look more like a scene kid at the Hot Topic instead of an actual performer on stage. stressed Yeesh, now I'm sounding like Simon. But she has rocked out and kept us entertained the whole time, and I can't help but agree with the judges when they say she might make it to the end. I really hope she gets a record deal. With a voice like that, she deserves one.
Adam Lambert: And on the other end of the age spectrum for the show, we have Adam. He's currently the judges' fave, and so far I don't see any reason why he can't make it all the way to the end. Unlike Allison, he's much more theatrical, and it shows in some of his renditions of the songs that he's performed so far. Like Danny, he hasn't been up for elimination so far, either. He'll definitely get a record deal after this is over. I guarantee it. And for anybody who wants to call him the next "anything," they're not describing his talent well enough.
Matt Giraud: Oh, yes...Matt, the guy who mae history and got the first judges' save ever. At least he's (hopefully) learned from his mistake and won't try too hard to make something his own whenever it's necessary. He's starting to grow on me a little bit, and I can't wait for his to do something as awesome as say, his rendition of Stevie Wonder's "Part-Time Lover" again.
Anoop Desai: Anoop, Anoop, Anoop. He's been in the Bottom 3. Three times. In a row. As much as he's rebounding and putting in effective, consistent performances, I can't help but feel that this is nothing more than a race for third for him. He's been near the bottom three times, and the next time could be it for him.
Well, those are my opinions on the Top 7.
