Waking up [1] [2]Dragon slowly opened her eyes. For a moment or two, Dragon's vision was blurry. Blinking rapidly, Dragon saw she was curled up against Xangord. Lifting her head, she saw Nogard curled up on the other side. For what was not covered by a thick white quilt, Dragon saw that the three of them were heavily bandaged. Confused, Dragon attempted to lift her head further but moaned when a spike of pain shot through her head.
"You shouldn't be moving so much while your injuries heal," someone said from the far end of the room. "You'll just rip everything back open. Magical healing or not, you need to give your body a chance to heal."
Rolling onto her back with a grunt of pain, Dragon saw that
the person who had spoken was standing in an archway. Looking about, Dragon saw that the entire room was white and eggshaped.
"Who are you?" Dragon demanded.
Walking over to the bed that held the three of them, the man said, "The DD and your other associates will be worried about you..."
Instantly on the alert, Dragon demanded again, "Who ARE you!?"
"Someone who's going to have his a** flamed," Nogard said groggily. Still curled against Xangord, she lifted a heavily bandaged arm, aimed it at the man, and fired off a weak fireball.
Batting it aside, the man said, "You keep that up, you'll just kill yourself faster."
"What is it you want with us?" Xangord asked, having also awakened.
"To restore you to full health," the man said, pulling a tray of food from a wall dispenser. Placing it next to the sisters, he said, "It may not be as good as what the
Nerissa Altsoba can manufacture, but it still has all the required nutrients."
Moving about the bed, he gently moved Dragon, Xangord, and Nogard into sitting positions and propped them with pillows. Separating the food onto three separate trays, he placed a tray before each of them.
"Just tell us your name!" Dragon said as the man exited the room.
"Broden," the man said as the door slid seamlessly shut behind him.
Looking at the trays, the three sisters were surprised to see that it contained their favorite foods.
[3]"You know that could be poisoned," Xangord said as Nogard began eating.
