Dance in my shoes
My day to day activities, thoughts, and random moments. A place for my expressions.
The sweet smell of rain...
It's raining right now. I could smell it all day but right now it's actually raining. And just if you wanted to know it's also 1:20 am where I am. So yeah the rain, god it's making me feel so happy.

You see in Cody the weather is unpredictable. Always has been. Just because it's cloudless and sunny and 60ยบ(F) when you wake up doesn't mean it's not going to be snowing by the time you get out of school. And we can't forget the evil wind that blows everything around. Word of advice if you ever decide to vacation here. Bring practical clothing and don't worry about your hair. You never know when the wind will pick up and that careful hairstyle that took you and hour to perfect is blown into a rats nest and that "perfect" dress is now working like a parachute and you're being blown down main street.

But the rain I love it so much. Right now it's just a soft pitter-patter but I can't wait until it turns into a violent downpour. When I was a kid every time it rained my older sister and I would go outside and get completely soaked. We'd stand under rain gutters and the eaves of neighborhood houses until we were shivering from the wet cold. Then we'd go back inside and take a warm bubble bath with the bath toys we had. (I mean they were freaking kewl! We had a glow in the dark shark and pirate ships that were a foot long each.)

Then when I got a little bit older my little sibling (the twins Kendall and Quentin) would build forts and stuff outside with cardboard boxes, old tables, the turtle shell sandbox covers, and a lot of umbrellas. And then we'd bring blankets and food out into it and stay there for as long as we could while it rained.

And now that I'm older and my life is too hectic and s**t to do that, I just go out when it rains or open my window (yes the broken one). In the summer I always have this twin window fan in and when it rains at night I take it out and open my window as far as I can.

I remember once right after my aunt and sister came down from Helena Montana to visit it rained and then my friend called me. It was around 11 at night (past curfew) and I was wearing a pair of really baggy jeans just pacing up and down in the street along my block. By the time we hung up my pants were soaked up to the knees and my feet were black from the street grime. (I'm always barefoot in summer.)

For me I guess rain is a symbol of hope and clean beginnings. When it rains everyone seems to be more... docile. Like it's a thing of reverence to witness the rain. I love the rain. And after the wyoming teasers (when you think it's finally spring and then it blizzards again) this rain is a relief. It's the first that hasn't turned to snow after two minutes. Sigh...
