Chapter Two

After their morning meal, Nabeu and Atem walked
through the court yard, talking about anything that came
into their heads. The care-takers followed the two, in
great distance, incase the two needed something.

Nabeu liked walking on the ledges that seperate the
walkway from the actual garden. Atem stayed on the walk-
way located in the shdae. Princess or not, Nabeu acted
like a peasant who didn't have a care in the world.

"Father." Nabeu said.

Atem looked up at her. "Yes, Nabeu?"

"I know what I want for my birthday." She replied.

"What would you like?" He asked.

Nabeu hesitated for a moment. "I would like to see
the rest of our home..." She said soflty. She felt kind of
embarressed for saying it for she thought the question was
a burdon to him.

Atem just looked at her, confused on what to say. "Well-" he started to say, but Nabeu cut him off before he could
finish.

"I'll take on the role of a servant. I'll change my name and appearance just for you to say yes!" Before she knew it, Nabeu was blurting out any solutions that came into her head that would make Atem agree with her birthday wish.

Atem just laughed. This made Nabeu feel humilitated slightly, and a bit angry. "You'd do anything to go outside the southern wall, wont you?" He asked in between laughs.

Nabeu nodded her head rather quickly. "It would be very important to me." She replied. She got down from the ledge and stood in front of him.
"I'll think about it, Nabeu." Atem said. "This is a very tricky request from you. It will depend on a matter of things." He added.

Nabeu felt a bit excited. There was a slight change that she could explore her entire home. She wanted to know the answer to her request more than anything right now. "Thank you, Father, for concidering my request." Nabeu said as she hugged him.

Atem returned the hig and smiled. "Anything for you." He replied. He would really do anything for his daughter, as long as it didn't put her in danger. The hug lasted for a minute before Atem was called to meet with the war council by a guard who came in on the two. He was caertified and trust worthy to come and go into the southern wing as long as he had a duty to fulfill.

Nabeu didn't want him to go. The time in between visits felt like an eternity. Alhtough she had her care takers, Amish and Tamo, Nabeu was still lonely. She walked with her Father for as far as she could until told to go no more.

***

Amish, who had shoulder length brown hair with dark brown eyes, wore a dirty robe made of linen, stood in front of Nabeu, teacher her about the stars and how they acted as guidelines to build a tomb for a Pharaoh. Amish had a bit of a temper issue when Nabeu wouldn't pay attention, but usually apologized quickly. Amish said that one day, Nabeu would have the stars guide her placement for the after life. This lesson often bored Nabeu, she knew that she wouldn't have to worry about where her tomb would be placed. Femals of the Royal Family had no power. They were only figure heads to bore future heirs to the thrown. When they died, their husband chose where their body's were placed. These thoughts, more like facts, saddened Nabeu. Sometimes, she wish that she wasn't a royal, or had to be just a shell of a person. The love of her Father is what's keeping her home. Running away was no option.

Tame replaced Amish for the second half of Nabeu's lesson. She had short, curly black hair with many smudge marks on her face from the work she would do around the palace. she wore the same thing as Amish but slightly darker and dirtier. Her posture was slightly off from all the water jugs she carries every day to the palace. Tamo was also shorter then Nabeu but skinnier than her from lack of meals.

Tamo taught Nabeu about the after life and what the requirements were in order to pass the tests. If one was kind-hearted and led a harmounis life, the soul would be passed on into the afterlife; only if it equaled the weight of a feather. If the person led a disasterious life and their heart weight more then a feather, their sould would be eaten by a monster, loosing all chances of being reborn.

Nabeu grew tired of learning about the afterlife and the stars. Everything she was being taught was about Death. What she wanted to know, was about the history of Egypt. What was life like when the Nation was one? Who was the first Pharaoh? When did the Gods and Goddesses create Egypt? When Nabeu asked these questions, Amish or Tamo would find some excuse to not teacher her on that subject. They were forbidden to stray off from the Afterlife topic. It was by law that a princess who will become a future Queen of any nation, can not know more than ehir husband. This law was passed down long before Atem's time.

The urge to learn causes Nabeu to go to her Father's private study while he was away. She wouldn't really leave the sotuher win, the room connected the east wing and the southern wing. It was risy for Nabeu to sneak in there, certain people were allowed in the study. Most of them, didn't know of Nabeu's exisitance. Though she hasn't been caught yet, but at many times, she almost go discovered.

A knock was heard at the door of Nabeu's room. Atem had come back to Nabeu, and she was a litted surprised. Has two hours really passed? She was happy none the less, as she got out of her chair and ran up to him.

"Hello, Father." Nabeu said, standing in front of him. There was a smile on her face that quickly vanished when she saw the expression on Atem's face. "What's wrong?" She asked.

There was a look of worry on his face, something had happened between the time he left Nabeu to the ending of the war council meeting. Atem quicly walked over to Nabeu's window and scanned the area, as if something was missing. "The Golden Queen..." He finally said.

Nabeu just looked at him with confusion in her eyes, not leaving where she was standing.

He turned around and starred at the floor. "The army captured a Lower Egyptian soldier." He started to say. Fear and panic was in his voice, but tried to conceal it. "He said, that the Pharaoh of Lower Egypt is going to pay a visit soon..."

"What do you plan to do, sire?" Amish asked.

"The best thing to do is to keep our guard up. Whenever she visit's, death seems to happen in her path." Atem replied.

"Do you know when she is going to visit?" Tamo asked.

Atem shook his head. "Before we could as, some how he died." He replied. "A heart attack of some sort..."

Amish and Tamo looked at each other. They feared for something that could happen to them and Nabeu. "How do you plan to prevent her from murdering your people?" Amish asked.

Atem looked her straight in the eyes. "If we give her what she wants, no one will die." He replied. His sight shifted down onto the floor, his face was pale from all the thoughts running through his head, and his blue eyes were cold to look at.

"Father..." Nabeu whispered, taking a step closer to him. Atem was stressed more then he ever was before, and Nabeu didn't want that. She thought of any way to make him feel relaced, but this situation was different. The duty's of a Pharaoh were more important than personal happiness. What could she do, though? Nabeu took another step owards him in hops of giving him a hug.

"Nabeu..." Atem said sharply, as if Nabeu had done something wrong. he looked at her with anger, but with fear as well. "You are no longer allowed to leave your room. Guards will be entering the southern wing in your protection. They are told to not let you leave this room, unless told otherwise by myself only." He said. The room fell silent from his words. He acted as though Nabeu was a gem of high value and wanted no one to know she existed.

Nabeu nodded her head. "Alight, Father." She replied. A look of fear fell upon her face, but tried to hide it. Atem would do everything in his power to protect her, so there was nothing to be afraid of. But thoughts kept lingering in her head.
