The luxurious satin of her bloodred gown caressed her skin, sending chills down her spine, and she hated every minute of it. The room was too bright, the guests too loud, and the space too claustrophobic, but she couldn't leave. Not yet, while he was still this sober. Compared to the cold metal pressed to her throut earlier, this was heaven. She usually didn't take threats too easily, but he was serious. She could tell in the way his expression never matched his eyes, and the grip he held her in when he leaned in to kiss her.
