and things went to the way they shall be...
Really?
I've taken to stalking the Writer's Forum. Despite the rumor that it moves slower than molasses, it's actually the most active forum I've found. It's pretty awesome. Of course, as with all things awesome, there is the customary n00bishness.

But honestly? If you post your writing for critique - take the ******** critique! If you're too weak to fess up to the fact that your writing is not the best, then grow some back bone, throw your pride and ego to the dogs and come back when you're not a baby.

Oh, and don't even get me started on the amount of kids who like to say that they're "above their level". Honestly - even if Paolini published a book at 19, does NOT mean that because you can write a fantasy story about dragons at 13 and be better than he is. Sheesh! Kids these days!

If anyone ever reads this, here's something for the mind:

GET OVER YOURSELF.

And I mean that in the most loving of ways. As a writer, hell, as a person, you'll always have someone who is better than you at something - maybe writing in general, maybe poetry, maybe ******** hairstyle. It doesn't matter - don't get all arrogant because your little friends and teachers and mommy and daddy praise your work. The best thing about the internet: it's potential for brutal honesty.

Here's a super-tip:
Only let praise really hit you when the person providing it has clear evidence of your particular talent.

That goes for more than writing. Also, if you're praising someone - give them the evidence of the basis of the praise. It makes it known to the person what they did right and what they can improve on even more. It's one of the greatest things a writer can get - a critique which points out their shortcomings and praises their hard work.

That's the rant.
