.:[Chapter 1]:. The End of the Summer Dream
Joint Story
By: Konan of Paper and TheGiftMistress

I looked up at the sky and admired the glistening light that the stars produced. I closed my eyes in appreciation for the warm refreshing wind that blew in my face, and the ritualistic orchestra that countless insects produced. It was during times such as these that I truly got to enjoy my free time.

It had been so long since I'd been able to appreciate the simple things like this. I knew it wouldn't last for long, but whilst it did, I wanted to treasure every moment.

I stretched out my arms and yawned before looking back up at the stars. Tomorrow would be another day and I wished that it wouldn't come. Knowing that "she" was coming made my stomach churn.

"She" - That's how I would mention her to people. It's as much as I could bear to describe her. Anyone who pushed me to do more would usually find themselves in my bad books.

"She" - She was my half sister. We were only related by the blood of my unknown father. While I had light skin, she had dark. While my hair was a mix of two colors she had black and while my eyes were silvery blue, her's were crimson red. We were nothing alike.

I bolted upright. The same shiver had ran through my spine as I always get when I think about her. I tried to clear my mind. I took deep breaths and looked about me, but she would not leave me alone. Even when she wasn't near me, she never left me.

Cold Sweat dripped from my chin as I began to remember all the things she did to those around me when they got to close. What could I do but just watch as I knew she would hold it against me if the secret of our family got out? Of course she cared nothing about me and only about herself and what she believes is "the rightful family blood." It wasn't fair. She was able to have friends and yet I couldn't even so much as go near another person.

It was time for me to go back home. If I was late for her arrival, I'd never hear the end of it. I stood up. My body felt heavy as I trudged back home - I wished I could be somewhere else, anywhere else. I wish I could escape this life I had.

I walked along a stone path up to my small house. I lived alone. I looked up at my house with sadness as I opened the door, which hinges were already threatening to fall off. I took one step inside and stared at a framed photo of my late mother on a glass table in the middle of the room.

When I'd been younger, she was the only bit of light in my life. From the vague memories I have with her, I knew she'd always looked out for me. She died when I was six, and since then, I'd had no one. No one to care for me, or to love me, or to protect me.

Just thinking of my mother caused more hate for “Her” to stir within me. Although I don’t have any proof, I know that “Her” mother was the cause of this. Everyone hated my mother for soiling the “Pure Blood” but no one could hate my mother more than she. Those dark, piercing crimson eyes still burned in my memory. Those eyes were filled with nothing but hate. Yet, I knew that the only reason why she hated my mother was do to "Her." Before this I remembered kindness from those eyes. She loved as though I were one of her own as well and treated my mother with the most respect.

There was a knock at the door. It was sharp and loud, and I felt my heart jump. Was this the time already? I took my coat off, before heading over to answer the door...

I took a deep gulp before I hesitantly put my hand on the door knob. She couldn't be here yet! She was supposed to have come tomorrow! I could feel my heart pound fiercely against my rib cage as I slowly turned the door knob.

I heard her outside, mumbling to herself. Complaining about me as usual. Didn't know what I'd done wrong already. Had I not answered the door fast enough? Opening it slowly, I saw her standing there, her eyes piercing through me.

I blinked several times making sure what I saw in front of me was real. Blood dripped freely down her arm and onto the dusty floor that I forgot to sweep yesterday. She was clutching her bleeding shoulder in pain, though she tried to hide the fact that it hurt immensely. A highly decorated dagger was wedged deeply into her shoulder blade. I wasn't sure if I should dance in joy or be worried about her.

She staggered inside, blood dripped on my floors as I stepped aside...I stuttered "Wha...What happened?" but she said nothing, just walked on past me, along the hallway.

The right eye twitched at her silence but I quickly closed my eyes trying to cool my anger. I walked past her into the guest restroom, pulling out the first aid kit and handed it to her. She looked at me as if I was retarded and walked towards the living room instead.

I placed the kit down on the floor. Couldn't she see I was trying to help her? I walked steadily behind her. "Are you going to tell me what's happened?" I asked, trying to hide the swelling anger.

"It's none of your business," she started as she pulled out the dagger with a hiss. "Who the hell are you to ask Me anything, half-blood?" She merely tossed the blade to the side and it hit the floor with a clang.

I followed the dagger to the floor and picked it up, "I'm just trying to look out for you...you are my sister after all..." She turned around sharply, wincing a little at the pain, "HALF sister," she said, "And I think you'll find the half is what makes you and I quite different."

I opened my mouth, ready to give her a mouthful of colorful words when I noticed that her eyes were closed. Slowly her blood began to crystallize around her shoulder and formed a large protruding gem. She grabbed onto it and it glowed a bright red before falling off. Her wound was healed and the only evidence of her being injured was her torn clothes, dried blood and the large ruby like gem in her hand.

I knew there was something different about her but I'd never seen that before. What just happened? She placed the gem on the table near her and smiled wickedly at me "See? I can handle things myself" I didn't know what to say.

"Since when were you able to do that? As far as I remember you were only able to hide your wounds from view!" I said panicking a little. She would only hold this secret against me as well. I began to seethe inside. Was she doing all of these things on purpose just to mess with my head? A flashback of my mother began to fade the surroundings as I remember something she told me about the "other family."

"Don't worry," She'd soothe, "You are special as well" I'd look at her with my wide young eyes, full of awe and curiosity, "One day, you'll see. Don't let what people say get to you. Brush it aside..."

I was snapped out of my flashback when my half sister slammed the door to the guest room with enough force to break down the entire house. I sighed and knew I wasn’t going to get any information today. I covered my mouth as I yawned and peered over at the clock that read: 11:27 P.M.

It was getting late. I knew I should go to bed. I let my legs walk me up the stairs and to my room. I sat down heavily on the bed and sighed. The next few days were going to be hell. I lay down, and shut my eyes.

I woke up with a start when I heard a crash down stairs. I blinked at the clock that now read: 3:56 A.M. What on Earth could cause such a loud crash? I bolted up right when I heard my sister yell at someone or something.

This couldn't be good. I got up and ran down the stairs. I rushed in to the living room. My sister had her back turned to me, and she was shouting at something. I couldn't make out what it was, so I moved in to have a look.

A man with silver white hair that seemed almost, feathery smiled even though my sister was yelling at him with her highest and most annoying voice. I was mesmerized by his ocean like eyes. I didn’t even realize that I was staring at him for so long because before I knew it I saw red eyes instead of blue-green. My sister now had her attention on me and was fuming like an angry cat. The man simply continued to smile but had a strange glint at the corner of his eye as if he noticed something he liked or was interested in.

Before I could say anything, my sister started on me, "Get back to bed" she shouted, "this doesn't concern you!" The man laughed from behind her and smiled at me playfully, "But this has everything to do with her," he said.

I stared stupidly at the man and questioned, "Er... what are you talking about?" The man's smile got even bigger. He held his hand out as if he wanted me to put my hand out as well. I unconsciously moved my hand towards him before my sister slapped my hand away. "This is preposterous! You belong to me, Aeolus!" “Ah, but I don’t belong to you at all, I belong to this lady right here.”

I was growing more and more confused, but I took steps towards the man. My body seemed to move on its own. I felt a tugging at my clothes as my sister tried in vain to stop me. Eventually, my fingers touched his.

My sister had taken a book off of one of the shelves nearby and threw it at me in hopes of stopping me. I could feel the anger practically roll off of Aeolus as he blocked the book with what seemed to be a thin almost clear barrier.

Aeolus pulled me close, and my sister screamed, "But you have it all wrong! It's me you want! She's just a half-blood!" Aeolus moved his hand on to my shoulder and spun me around. He gazed deeply in to my eyes, "No, it's definitely you I need," he said.

His eyes bore deeply into my eyes and I once again felt mesmerized. My sister’s dreams were drowned out as I felt very lightheaded and somewhat dizzy.

I didn't understand what was happening. Why did this man hold such great power over me? As the world faded out, so did my sisters cries and gratefully let myself fall under...
