(Note: I wrote this while thinking of my mom and her relationship with my stepfather, so it is kind of confusing to those who first read it)
One of us was lying
Because you’re that sort of guy
One of us was crying
And I’m never one to cry
One of us was trying...
Trying to break the others heart
And both of us were dying
because we couldn’t tear apart
Bound together
In love and in war
With the brushing of lips
And the slamming of the door
The bruises and blood
The shouts and the screams
The tears and tremors,
The destruction of dreams
Professing our love
While letting it wilt
And lighting a match
To all that we built
Telling you I hated you
Yet always wanting more
You screamed at me, more than you,
Ever have before
You knew I was fragile
And couldn’t be lied to
You knew I didn’t love you
But you knew that I tried to
You can crave one more fight
You can crave one more kiss
But you'll have to understand
That I can't go on like this
You can shade in with yellow
But the world has made you black
You have nothing left
That could ever bring me back

Everyone promises you a happily ever after.... but life turns into a different kind of fairy tale.
