My Project! Chinese New Year
Chinese New Year, or Lunar New Year, is celebrated on the first day of the First Moon of the Lunar Month. This is the time where the Chinese congratulate each other, themselves and the gods for passing through another year, a time to finish the old and welcome the new. The Chinese have to go through many things through out the fifteen days of the celebration. Clothing mainly featuring the color red is originally worn throughout the Chinese New Year because it is believed that red will scare away evil spirits and bad fortune. Today Chinese New Year parades are annual traditions in North America. Cities such as San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York City, Auckland, New Zealand and Vancouver, British Columbia have Chinese New Year parades. The lunisolar Chinese calendar determines Chinese New Year dates. Chinese New Year falls on different dates each year. For instance, next year is the year of the Ox. 2009’s Chinese new Year will be celebrated on January 26th. It is usually held in either January or February.
