For a few days now there has been threads popping up in gaia about role plays and them being dead. I would make a thread counteracting them but my threads die...I'm a thread killer!
Aren’t Role plays suppose to be fun? If your not having fun in them then what’s the point of role playing? People act as if the longer your post is the better the role play is.
I do not really agree with this. For one just because you added words to your post doesn't make it a good post. Just because you make it the longest post in the world doesn't make it the best post in the world.
Let’s get down to this shell we? What makes a good role play?
1) Being able to "get into character."
For one...You can make a very adv lit role play. You make it make the post 3 pages long but if you can't get into your character then the role play will go down the drain. I am sorry to tell you this.
If you can't become that character and be that character in post then everything you say and do will be for nothing.
I role play a number of characters. Cannon and Ordinal. What I love to do is simply get into character with who ever I take and what role play I am in. It makes me think. Dear lord it makes my writing better...and I will ignore the 54 I got on my essay a few days ago. Dang it I knew I forgot to do something. Here’s something for you college goers.. REMEMBE TO SITE RIGHT!
Back to what I was saying...It betters my writing. Matter of fact I wouldn't be sitting here typing this out if I never joined/learned how to role play.
Yes, it has helped me that much.
2) Windows of possibility.
This is where you role play out what going on in your mind. To set a place and time and then take it from there...That is what a role play is.
If a giant cake appears out of no where and hits you over the head then so be it. Your character just got caked...Get it caked?
Sorry Bad joke...
3) post length.
Shut up about adv lit, semi lit, and what not. Guess what IT’S SOMETHING YOU MADE UP! They mean nothing. You might as well call it um...elementary school, middle school, and high school.
COME ON HERE!
literature is..well here is a definition of it.
Quote:
The body of written works of a language, period, or culture.
Imaginative or creative writing, especially of recognized artistic value: “Literature must be an analysis of experience and a synthesis of the findings into a unity” (Rebecca West).
The art or occupation of a literary writer.
The body of written work produced by scholars or researchers in a given field: medical literature.
Printed material: collected all the available literature on the subject.
Music. All the compositions of a certain kind or for a specific instrument or ensemble: the symphonic literature.
So...Role plays really can't be classified as that. -_-;
You want literature? Go and read poems and works from authors like...
Lord Byron, Percy Shelly, Marry Shelly, George Orwell, and the like. THATS literature!!!!
We're a bunch of kids/users who take our fantasies to play them out. That’s what we're doing.
I find a good post length is about...Oh...5 or more sentences
..
Other then that you’re just going over board with the long post and it’s not like you need to have a big post. That’s fine and dandy. Still if you feel the need for it then go for the long post but come on…I’m not reading a book!
I have a user who doesn't do really long post length but face it..She gets into her character! To me that’s bigger then doing anything else in a role play.
4) Rules
Ok have a 100 rules to the role play and watch it...oh I don't know. Die?
I get around 20 or so rules...Just to cover stuff. Over that and you might as well kiss it good bye.
5) Leading a role play.
Yes, you do not have to be a leader to lead a role play. I can't lead worth anything. In reality, its not you who makes the role play rather it’s the people who join.
A good thread owner has to watch what happens and has to make sure the rules are fallowed. Thats it.
I will give an example: I have a thundercat role play. I needed someone to join as the leader wasn't till page..oh ...16 when I got the person. Yet I found someone to be evil, I found someone to be a thundercat. I went from there. Guess what? The rule play still lives its active.
As of right now I can't think of anything else that I should add to this. This already is way too long then it should be. I am just tried of people saying that role plays are dead and this is how I feel about this.
Disclamer: By no means am I an expert of this. This is just how I learned. Want to get mad at my words...then fine. Do.
Oh by the way...
Knock it off with the small font. It doesn't make the role play better. Makes it to where I can't and a few others read the post. o_o
