[A girl is sitting in a dusty room, she's in a frilly pink dress that covers her feet and has long, blonde hair. She's staring out the only window.]
Here I am, trapped and forgotten,
Left in this dusty room by my evil stepmother
Stupid daddy. What WAS he thinking, marrying her?
... But wait. Who's that, out my window? [A knight in shining armor on a white horse is below the window. Girl takes notice.]
A dude on a white horse, in a big clump of metal clothes...
Gosh, must be uncomfortable.
He smiles, I think, below his helmet...
Geez, how does he breathe?
He calls to me to open the door.
[Girl yells]"If I could do that, don't you think I'd be outta here?!"
So he holds out his arms and calls to jump [Girl jumps out window into knight's arms]
And he catches me...
Almost dropped me, that clumsy oaf.
He sweeps me onto his horse and takes off his helmet...
Ugh, he smells like pigeon crud!
[Girl jumps off horse and starts singing, glaring at knight.]
You freak, you think you're the best of the world?
You think your a prince, but really you're just a dolt
With an ego the size of Australia!
[Girl starts ripping off skirt of dress. Beneath the skirt, she's in dark jeans and black sneakers. She keeps singing, while taking off the blonde wig to reveal short, dark hair.]
You say you can make me happy, but don't you see?
Tell me this: If you're my Knight in Shining Armor,
If this is my Happily Ever After...
[She pulls off the top of the dress. She's wearing a black T-shirt with a skull on it.]
Explain why I'm not happy yet.
[Girl throws the remains of the dress at the horse's feet.]
[Scene changes. The girl is still in the T-shirt and jeans, but she's on a bed, curled up. An older woman is reading to her. The girl holds up a hand, stopping her, and begins to sing.]
How come they are all beautiful?
Are they saying that ugly people are doomed to be alone?
That's not right; fairy tales are full
Of fake promises! If a girl wants a guy,
She'll have to wish to be a princess,
Wish to be lovely,
Wish for her fairy Godmother....
Well, guess what?!
It's not happening....
[Girl picks up the book and throws it.]
[She starts yelling at the woman.]
What's the point of dresses and makeup?
Why do I need glass shoes?
And must my hair be lemony and shiny
For me to attract my love?
Well, NO THANKS!
I'm good without that! I'm fine without that!
So tell me this: If I'm given all I desire,
If that was all my Happily Ever After....
[Woman runs out of the room. Girl shouts after her.]
Explain why I'm not happy yet!
[Girl drops to her knees and looks sad. She grabs her pillow and hugs it to her chest. She sings quietly now.]
Explain why I'm not.... happy yet.....
[She buries her face into her pillow. Everything goes black.]
