 Chapter 1: Once Upon a Time
In a faraway land, long ago, there lived a King and his fair Queen. Many years they had longed for a child, and finally their wish was granted. However, every time she'd been pregnant before, she'd miscarried. The royal couple feared to hope that anything would be different this time.
A beautiful fairy came to them one day and said she could give them the child they so longed for. The queen wept in joy. She fell at the fairy's feet and thanked her, begging for a beautiful baby girl who would bring happiness and peace to all who met her.
Deeply offended by the request, for she hated to be told what to do, the fairy gave the queen a baby. But this was not a sweet little princess. This was... something else.
Seeing that she had brought this upon herself with her own foolish pride, the queen thanked the fairy though she was still very distressed. The fairy shrugged and said, "My pleasure," but her tone said something more like, "You got what you deserved."
