Yeah, I stood up on the pulpit and told everyone that I was not straight. It was a fast Sunday today, which is sort of the church's version of open mic night. Some lady was talking about a gay family member who wouldn't talk to her anymore because she was mormon, so I got up and told everyone what I was and then talked a bit about how I don't think that should get between me and my family.
My mother is freaking out of course. She's afraid that people at church will ostracize her now. Why would they do that when they haven't even ostracized me? Sure, a few of them gave me funny looks, but I go more pats on the back than you would believe. I barely believe it myself.

I am laughing my butt off at your mom though. I mean, I understand her concerns and am not making light of them but I can just imagine her horror and her face and I can't help but laugh. I mean, seriously Hector...more than likely your "revelation" was not a friggin' surprise to a blessed soul up in that church or anywhere else in your community where you are known to hang out but isn't it amazing how some parents, relatives and friends seem to live in this world where what is obvious to the rest of creation somehow manages to bypass them for years and years and then, when you finally speak up and say what everyone else already knows, they are all mortified that their glass house is gonna shatter?
