Chapter 2 of A Life's Dream
Chapter 2
Nick’s P.O.V.

“Bye Grace!” I yelled as Grace was running down the block.
I still couldn’t get over the shock on how beautiful she was. I was actually glad that she bumped into. Even though she bruised my arm. I really hope I see her tomorrow.
Oh before I forget, my name is Nick. I’m a sixteen-year-old guy with diabetes. I have brown, curly hair and hazel eyes. I have two older brothers and one younger one. My older brothers and I are in a band, and we are having a break for a few months to help my mom get settled into Edmonton. I just hope it doesn’t get crazy like everywhere else we went.
So anyway, I hadn’t realized that Grace actually lived close to me. I just live a few blocks down from her house. So I am hoping that I see her tomorrow.
As I was walking, I saw a few girls staring at me. I smiled at them, being friendly and all, and then they just screamed. I just hate it when girls scream when they see me. I mean even though I’m famous doesn’t mean that I can’t still be normal.
I walked up to my house. As I unlocked the door, Elvis (my dog), jumped at me. I set him down and started going upstairs to my room.
“Hey Nick,” greeted my brother, Joe. “Where have you been? Do you know how late it is?”
“Chill Joe,” I responded. “I was just walking home until a girl bumped into me. So that just slowed me down a bit.”
“Oh okay, wait!” he suddenly yelled. “Who is this girl?” Ugh, I totally wish that Joe would stop peeking in my personal life.
“I’ don’t really know,” I answered. “ I didn’t have time to talk to her. She was sort of in a hurry to get to her house.”
“Do you at least know her name?”
“Yeah,” I said. “Her name is Grace.”
“Cute name,” he commented.
“Yeah I think so too.”

I woke up the next morning, thinking if I would see Grace again. As I got downstairs, Kevin, Joe, and Frankie were waiting for me. I got confused.
“Hey guys,” I greeted. “What’s up?”
“Joe told us what happened,” Kevin confessed.
“Uh, what are you talking about?” I asked.
“You know, about you bumping into a cute girl.”
“Oh that,” I said. “It wasn’t really anything. I didn’t really get to talk to her. She just ran away to her house.”
“Oh,” Kevin and Frankie said together.
They suddenly left the front room. I rolled my eyes and had breakfast.
I decided to go out again. I wonder if Grace will be out today. I really want to see her again. As I was walking out of my house, a lot of girls were in front of my house waiting for me or one of my brothers to come out. I ignored them, even though they were touching my clothes and screaming, “I love you!” right in my ear.
I continued walking down the block and searching for Grace. I spotted her when I was just a few blocks further. I was about to call her name, but she then started running away from me.
I ran after her. Not as fast as she did, so she wouldn’t notice me. I ran after her until we reached the park. She was running around the park until she was on a hill. I was hiding behind a tree so she wouldn’t see me. But I didn’t need to hide because she had her face in her hands. She was crying. I wonder if she was aware of the people staring at her. People like me.
I was walking towards her slowly so that she wouldn’t hear my footsteps. When I got a little closer, I could hear her sobbing. She was crying pretty hard. I could see a little bit of tears running down the hill. I sat right next to her, hoping she would notice me.
It took about fifteen minutes for her to stop crying. But she wouldn’t take her face out of her hands. She still hasn’t noticed me.
“Um, Grace?” I said. She then looked up at me. Her eyes were really red. I was suddenly worried.
“Oh hi,” she stuttered. “I didn’t notice you come here.”
“It’s okay,” I reassured. I reached up to wipe a tear from her cheek. I felt awkward doing that. “So why were you crying?”
“It’s a long story,” she stated.
“I have time,” I said with a smile.
“Okay,” she smiled weakly.
So she told me what was wrong. When she was born, her older cousin, Kristen, had cancer. So they took her to the hospital for a cure. They dosed her and said that she would be fine. That they took out all the cancer cells in her body. Kristen believed that she would live. So she went back to Toronto for school and such. Grace told me that she was visiting to look for a summer job. But she was really in Edmonton to get another dose because some cancer cells came back. So when Kristen went to the hospital, she started looking pale and weak. Before Grace could come to the hospital, the phone rang. Grace’s mom said that the doctors didn’t reach Kristen fast enough. She had died quickly after the doctors left her room to get her medications.
I couldn’t help feel sorry for Grace. It seemed that Kristen had been really important to her.
Grace stated crying again. She put her face in her hands again. I was thinking about what she had said just no. So that’s why she started running. She was upset. Grace continued to sob, unaware of the people watching her. Some people were even crying too once they saw Grace. I like the people in Edmonton. They cared. Back in New Jersey, people would just laugh and fun of the person that was upset.
I then had a pull on my arm. Nobody touched me but I could feel something tugging the arm closest to Grace. I finally understood what was happening. He wants me to comfort her.
So I put my arm on Grace’s shoulders and embraced her. I pulled her closer to me.
“It’s going to be okay,” I tried to say in a comforting tone. “Don’t’ worry.”
