Ximly returned to the truck quickly, and let out a smile at seeing her sleeping drome. “I thought we would go running…” She said jokingly to wake the creature.
Calon raised her head at hearing Ximly’s voice, and let out another purr as she stretched her neck out to nuzzle Ximly’s hand with her nose. It was about time the human had come back, she was eager to go running. Ximly smiled as she scratched the drome on the head and gave a nod. “Saved me some time following me today, we’ve got to go to market…. But don’t do it again.”
Calon gave a sigh and a nod, she’d try harder to resist the urge to follow her human the next time… but she couldn’t guarantee anything. The drome stood, but Ximly nudged the creature’s nose, “Not yet.” The human said, “We’re not any where near the market, and it’s too much of a risk for the unknowing to see you right now.”
The drome snorted again and nestled down in her blanket as Ximly tried her best to close the canvas snug so that anyone following the truck wouldn’t see the creature, but found it difficult as the canvas had been shredded around the edges by Calon’s toes in her jump. The woman let out a deep sigh as she gave into the feeling against her gut and tied the strips of fabric together. With the bed secure, Ximly walked around to the front of the truck and opened the door. The driver’s door was missing the window, and the only reason why the truck hadn’t been stolen, in Ximly’s honest opinion, was that it was a piece of s**t. Beat up, worn down, and literally being held together by duct tape and rusty bolts, not to mention that it was one hell of a pain in the a** to get started….
The truck eventually started with the help of Calon delivering a powerful kick to the inside of the truck bed, causing Ximly to laugh as she shut the driver’s door. Ximly drove away slowly at first, and once onto the road she sped slightly, but drove carefully. She stopped about thirty minutes later, and pulled off the road and backed onto a dirt path. It was then she stopped, once the truck was down far enough to be hidden from sight, that she got out and made her way to the back to let Calon out.
The Drome leapt from the back of the truck happily, and knelt down for Ximly to mount. The woman pulled the goggles she wore up over her eyes and adjusted them comfortably before taking her place upon the creature’s shoulders. She belted her legs into the saddle that her drome wore before taking hold of the reigns. “Alright, Calon let’s go!”
Calon purred cheerfully as she stood up and stretched her wings, and gave a quick shake of her head and tale while she moved from side to side in a simple warm up. Ximly smiled and patted Calon on the neck, and the drome bolted. Ximly let out a laugh as she leaned in close to the creature’s neck while she gained speed.
The drome wove through the trees with an outrageous accuracy at such a high speed, and her passenger showed just as much skill in riding as she did in running. Ximly let out a whoop, and Calon responded with a small roar and burst of speed. The human let the drome do the navigating, the creature knew the way to the hidden market, Ximly was more concerned with their surroundings passing in such a blur, and the fact that if they were ambushed at this speed, both of them could be seriously hurt. She gave Calon a slight tap on the reigns, and the drome began to slow down.
Ximly brought Calon to a walk after a while, patting the drome on the neck. They were now in the thinner parts of the woods they had entered, and Calon was walking carefully at Ximly’s command. The woman looked around, and stopped Calon. “Listen…. Pounce…”
The drome stopped, and tilted her head. She stood there quietly, and then looked in another direction quickly, and bolted in that direction. Ximly’s eyes narrowed, and she had her right hand off to the side, the air around it chilling, forming a frosty blade in her hand. She cut the belts around her legs quickly as Calon leapt into the air, gaining more height as she launched from a log, and Ximly leapt from the creature’s back, bringing her sword down in a powerful arch.
Calon skidded to a stop off to the side as Ximly came sword to cane with another person. The drome hissed as the two struggled for a moment, but stopped quickly as their gazes and weapons locked in place.
“What the hell are you doing out here?” Ximly gasped.
