This is something I want to write down -- since my old journal has been closed, I figured I'd go ahead and say it here.
I am a Catholic.
I don't know how many of you have a religion... believe in a higher entity... agree with supernatural occurences... believe that Angels & Demons exist. Do you? Is it all real? Is it all stories and superstition because it doesn't connect with science and fact?
My answer? I don't know. I have grown up in a Catholic family. Born and raised a Catholic. I go to church every Sunday and believe in God. After acquiring knowledge from school, mainly courses in astronomy, physics, and related sciences, I have no choice but to question and doubt. I know that's bad because I should have a firm belief in God. Sure, i do... but doing that just cuts off all other possibilities. What about the Theory of Evolution? Great, great theory. How about astronomy's Big Bang Theory on how the universe was created? Nicely said. Do you believe a higher power has created life and your existence? Is there actually this thing called Fate or Destiny... or can you create your own path? Possibly.
Then there are some people (i specifically remembering a radio talk show) saying how "you know the Church is hording all this money from its supporters" and that "the government can't do anything, and can't touch the church." If you think about it, it's kinda true - the church receives plenty of money from its followers, but you never know HOW much they have. Are they stealing our money? No. They are offering a service. Other related topics was Gaia's own "Why isn't Christianity Dead?". stare Harsh title, but he has a point. (this was back when Gaia was small in 2003.) I never did read through that thread, x_X i should have. Well, thinking about it: when was God "created" (from a scientific point of view)? He was "created" in order to explain unnatural occurences. Who created us? Who created the world? Why is the sun in the sky? ---- No answers? SOMEONE must have! A higher being! I don't know much about ancient history, but this could have possibly happened, right? Humans must have to have an answer to everything... if they can't, they need to find or make an answer. Maybe someone started this belief of a higher power. No science, no technology, no knowledge of the worlds. BUT after centuries passed and we have more understanding (or do we) of this universe... God is... i dunno, maybe just a belief passed down through the years. Science is trying to prove that God doesn't exist. What about a view from a believer? What about records proving Jesus Christ is real? There are maybe millions of stories for supernatural happenings. Guardian angels... demons... vision... spirits... ghosts... the other world/dimension/plane.
I just watched 'The Exorcism of Emily Rose' last night. Quite a powerful story. Stories like these just firms my belief in God. I believe in ghosts, angels, demons. I will always believe in God, no matter how much doubt comes across. In the movie 'Signs' Mel Gibson's character lost his faith in God, but he still sees things in the way of God. Once you have grasped a concept (in this case, God) and you choose to "stop believing", there's no way you can unlearn the concept of God.
I'm kinda just lost in the middle. I have my belief in God. But I also have my knowledge about science (and theories). I believe in science as well. Does one have to be right and one wrong? I don't know. I'm thinking about what I've written, and I'm not sure if there's a main point to this... or if i'm just rambling. I probably haven't even said everything i wanted to. But I've been able to write down what I haven't been able to say aloud... so it feels a little better.
