I feel like a quote out of context, withholding the rest.

rain.
this was an assignment for english II last year. a thank-you to the one and only cory konrad for letting me thieve his 'pure as virgin mary' diction. comments, please? i'm aware that some of the literary devices may be a bit...overused, but i had a specific amount that i had to put.

The Rain and What It Does To Me.
Only the soft pitter-patterings
of the drops hitting my home
can finally bring my mind to a halt.
Rain washes my worries away
as quickly as ocean waves erase footprints.
What was once dry hair
lies quickly flat against my skull
as I raise my eyes to the heavens
to take a look at the crying sky.
Drip, drip, drip, drip, drip...
Puddles form on the earth.
Rain as pure as Virgin Mary herself
runs the length of my nose; collects and--
drip, drip, drip, drip, drip...
Its touch caresses the ground and
the soil's scent becomes so sweet.
I memorize the rhythm of the rain's fall.
Drip, drip, drip, drip, drip....
The drops are like needles injecting care-free.
But as quickly as my peace-of-mind came,
It left. Peals of lightening
began to reel... it is not safe here.
It's time to go inside.
I fall back into my mind
and shut the door.

You downplay yourself far too harshly. Even if you did borrow a phrase-- and might I emphasize a single phrase-- there is far more original content, emotional and otherwise, that outweighs it. Not to mention that you wrote this with the restrictions of an English class (which rarely ever leaves any room for artistic expansion). There's more skill here than I think you realize. Simple language to describe a simple scene, and yet the words weave into a unique and color tapestry of diction. I could see you in the rain, standing with your eyes upraised, the whole scene. Both the poem and the image in my head were quite beautiful; take that as you may. I'd like to see more, if that is at all possible. Just keep me updated, Jin. Or would you prefer Kym?
