Logical Nonsense
Something to say when you don't know what to say.
Just something
Most of you who read this have probably already read it from me elsewhere...possibly all of you who read this, I'm not sure. But I thought I'd throw it out there for anyone who might stumble across it.

And I want the gold.

Dated July 21, 2008
So here's to religion, politics, and organges.

I started taking my vitamin C again. I used to take it during the winter, or right before juries to keep from getting sick. But now I'm starting to take it again as an answer to my apparent malnutrition. Now I know that word sounds terrible and calls to mind people who are either starving (deliberately or otherwise) or shoveling in the junk food, but honestly, I think a lot of Americans - hell, humans in general - are malnurished to some extent. For my part, due to my current money flow (or lack thereof), I haven't been getting much fruit, if any. And it seems to be weakening my blood vessel walls. You should see my arms. And my legs I guess, but I rarely ever let anybody see those. I mean, I know I bruise easily and I'm clumsy and I'm working in a place where I run into stuff, but wow. I don't think I have ever been quite this spotted. And there's this great blue thing on my right forearm at the moment that's roughly the size of a kiwi, perhaps even a lemon, and I don't really remember how I might have earned it. So I have decided that reestablishing a daily intake of vitamin C is in order. Iron would probably help, too, but I don't already have that.

Now, for anyone who seems truly alarmed by this, don't worry. Two weeks or so more and I shall be able to buy proper groceries and a wider variety of foods, fo sho.

On a note that is not at all related to any fraction of a degree, I feel the need this evening to vent about a particular pet peeve of mine. I have many, and I could probably lump most of them together into larger groups and in that way narrow down my list. This is probably one of those.

Subscribing Jesus to your political views. Jesus seems to be affiliated with so many political parties these days, it's a wonder people are still letting Him in for all His lack of loyalty to one specific standpoint. How many bumper stickers/T-shirts/window clings/magnets/facebook flair buttons have you seen that say "Jesus was a [insert whichever political party/viewpoint you wish to exploit]"? I think Donald Miller said it best in his book, Blue Like Jazz:

"Anybody who wants to get their way says that Jesus supports their view."

I don't subscribe to any particular political party because I am something of an idealist, and I can't fully support any of them with a clear conscience. There are things about each (and here I'm talking mostly about the Republican and Democratic parties) that annoy me. No, that's not a strong enough word. There are things about each that anger me.

It is my belief that Jesus does not subscribe to any particular political party because He listens to it all (it probably only takes Him like .0000000000001 seconds or less), then sits back and thinks: "Bless their finite, tainted-by-sinful-nature little hearts. Not a single one of them has got it right. But I sure do love them." Political parties are run by men and women who not only are flawed, but are after power, and therefore none of them can design a perfect government. A perfect government would be centered around Christ and run by sinless people. Not happening, kiddos.

Besides, if Jesus was a politician at all, He wouldn't have lived the life He lived. He would have been up there with the scribes and pharisees, because in that culture, those were the politicians. They were the ones in power. In the words of Mike Huckabee, former Republican presidential candidate:

"Jesus was too smart to ever run for public office."

So am I going to say "Screw politics, I'm not even gonna bother voting"? By no means. Somehow my recent thoughts and discussions concerning this are actually igniting a desire to become well-informed on this stuff so I can confidently put in my two cents and feel that I have voted wisely. Although, I must confide in you now, I honestly don't think much about any of the presidential candidates, but that's a different discussion/rant altogether.
