In the terms of martial arts, what I have read about and looked into about this claims that it is a martial art, this one seems best suited to me. More importantly in regards to my health. After my physician explained to me that heavy impact sports and activities are not in my best interests, I had to make a different decission as to what I want to do. I could not find anything that did not pose a risk anymore until this Taoist Tai Chi started renovating an abandoned building next door.
I used to take part in Judo and other various activities, but the more I recall, the more I realize just how heavy impacted it could be. It doesn't seem like it at all when experiencing it and taking part. I need to take into consideration that my hip is not quite as in shape as it used to be before my surgery. A lot of movement and throws involve the hips, which could pose a problem for me.
Reading on the subject, Tai Chi is said to have great health benefits with improved circulation (something I need to do), balance and posture (which I've noticed has been slipping); increased strength and flexibility (another trait I thoguht I could use); and reduced stress (my family drives me crazy). More importantly, this art could help me with my poor circulation (I don't know what causes that), high blood pressure (family makes me angry), arthritis (problem from my accident), back pain (also due to accident), joint immobilities (more like limited mobility due to the accident), respiratory problems (only because people smoke around me and megacity polution).
If not all those things, at least it can provide me with enough extra curricular activities. That and I get to further broaden my experiences.
