Yellowstone National Park
This is my journal from Yellowstone. Once I figure out how to make my own website I'll post this on there to!

July 4, 2008
We saw a female moose. That's it...oh and some cows, but they don't really count...and this isn't in Yellowstone, we spent the 4th of July watching fireworks in a Super Walmart parking lot...I brushed my teeth in the bathroom sweatdrop

Day 1- July 5, 2008- Our 1st day in Yellowstone National Park (YNP)- Saturday
We got here at about 12 in the afternoon and from there to about 9pm we saw a black bear, a grizzly bear, a lot of buffalo (bison), a coyote and elk. The grizzly we saw was right across the road from us and because of all the people and the Rangers it was getting mad so the rangers had us get in our car and drive off.

Day 2- July 6, 2008- Sunday
Today we got up really early (5:00) and saw 4 black wolves and a gray wolf from the Slough Creek pack. We also saw Sand Hill Cranes, deer, big horn sheep, a black bear, a coyote, some bison, mountain sheep and an osprey (hawk-like bird)

Day 3- July 7, 2008- Monday
We hiked to Cascade Lake and saw coyotes and bison up there. We saw a black wolf in the morning. There were also elk on our way to lunch. Across the Yellowstone River we saw Mountain Sheep. The coyote we saw after lunch was digging a den near a bush. We saw a female moose on our way to breakfast and some more bison. Then at lunch we ate at the Yellowstone Picnic area and were attacked by these freaky silk worms that got all over us and our food.

Day 4- July 8, 2008- Tuesday
Today was pretty laid back, we went shopping in West Yelllowstone and saw Old Faithful. We saw a herd of elk, an eagle's nest, and 2 mother deers with their fawns. One fawn looked at us when it was crossing the road and the other one was prancing on the side with its ears back and its chest puffed out.

Day 5- 7/9/08-Wednesday
We went to Jackson Hole, Montana. We saw a HUGE herd of elk of at least 100.
We also saw some bison and deer on our way back to our campsite. Then at Jenny Lake these chipmunks were bothering us for food. And one climbed on to my cousin's lap!!!

Day 6- 7/10/08- Thursday
We hiked up to the top of Mt. Washburn (Elv: 10,247 ft.) and saw mountain sheep on the way down. In the morning we saw a coyote pack with 4 pups while looking for the wolves and a male moose crossed the road infront of us. Then we went to Trout Lake and saw the river otters. We saw a ptarmagin (chicken-like bird) that thought he was cool and was walking in circles, strutting his stuff...in the middle of the road. We also saw a gardner snake at Trout Lake.

Day 7- 7/11/08- Friday
On our way to watch the wolves there was a deer in the middle of the road and a fox on the rock wall. We washed laundry and took showers today and at about 7:30 am we saw a grizzly bear that tried to cross the road but there were so many people it was too scared. Then we saw a herd of elk. We saw more sand hill cranes and some coyotes that were howling at each other. At 11:19 we saw 2 big male elks. Then at 2:32 we saw a herd of bison at the sulfer gysers. We hiked up to the natural bridge. Then at Storm point we saw 2 bison, a fat squirrel (pregnant?) a chipmunks and a marmit. On our way to see the wolves we saw a black bear. Then we saw 5 or 6 wolves from Slough Creek Pack hunting bison. (they didn't get any though)

Day 8- 7/12/08- Saturday
At 9:53 we saw an osprey catch a fish and feed it to the baby osprey near Devil Slide. Then we saw elk and a black bear. At 12:15 me and my cousin went horseback riding. I rode Decker, a black horse, and my cousin rode Zack, a tan horse, on the trail we saw a grizzly. Then we saw a black bear and her cub. Then we saw a group of bison crossing the road and one of the calves decided to stop and nurse in the middle of the road. We then did Elephant Back trail (4 mi round trip) and saw 2 squirrels and a chipmunk. I also found a tree where bears had made marks in. Then near the mud volcanoes we saw a grizzly bear mom and cub.

Okay that's all I have time for right now! I'll put up days 9-14 up tomorrow.
Ja Ne!!
