THE BLACK DOG BY: MEGAN HERRICK
Bang! The loud noise coming from outside made me jolt, and run outside to examine what was causing this. I slid open the sliding door and rushed to the scene. My yard was fenced in so no animal could get in and yet I could see that something got in. All my plants were ruined, and bushes torn to shreds, the yard was a mess. How could anything get in? What kind of animal could of made this mess in such little time? What ever it was, was gone. I checked around the yard for a hole in the fence or any evidence that would allow a beast like this one to get in. But nothing, an unknown animal came into my yard without an entrance or exit and tore up my yard and was gone before I could catch him in the act. Maybe it wasn’t an animal. Maybe someone was pulling a prank on me. But you could tell no human could of done this. Next time this happened, I would find out. But hopefully this was a one time thing. Soon enough I forgot about the whole incident and cleaned up the yard. The next day came and I was sitting on the two person sofa awaiting my friends arrival.
I forgot about this when there was a unknown noise coming from the backyard. Right when the noise started, everything that happened yesterday replayed in my head. This time I had to catch what ever it was disturbing my yard. When I found my way outside and glancing around the corner toward the noise I remembered I hadn’t brought anything to defend myself with. But it was too late to turn back now. I turned the corner and nothing was there, the only thing left was another mess! Damn! I cursed to myself. I could of sore I had him this time. But how was this thing, getting in and out of the yard when it was fenced? Maybe it was just a raccoon, or a squirrel. I walked toward the mess and something clicked. What ever it was, was not gone. I could feel it’s presence. This thought sent a shiver down my spine, and the hairs on the nape of my neck stand to a point. By now I could hear it breathing, it was breathing heavily, like it was hungry for what it was seeing. I didn’t like that thought. I wanted to run, but my instincts told me otherwise. Just stand still! Don’t move! I was saying to myself. Without realizing it my body turned to face the disruption. What I now saw was unbelievable! His fur was pitch black, and cut short, his body was huge and muscular, and his teeth showing from all corners of his mouth. This had to be the biggest dog I’ve ever seen! He looked like a pit, ready to kill what ever was in his way. He noticed right away when I moved and was growling at my actions. I was terrified as drool drained from his extended growl. What now? He was waiting for my next move and was ready with every breath, he knew what he was doing.
I wanted to run but I could tell by his toned muscular body that he would beat me. Before I could stop myself my legs moved on there own and ran for the door. What!? I didn’t say move! I was yelling to myself. Right when I crossed paths with the dog, it flung it’s enormous body at me. But he didn’t fling far enough, since he missed. But he didn’t give up, he was up and running immediately, and clenched his mouth against my ankle and I collapsed to the ground, on my stomach. Man did that hurt! This dog was really strong as he dragged me against the grass, and I tried to yell for help for the only thing that came out was a loud shrill. I flipped myself onto my back to buy myself more time, and the dog unclenched his tight grip off my ankle. I froze as he walked over me, and starred me down. I was face to face with the beast that would decide to leave or otherwise. Either way I was scared shitless. I could tell he was starring at me, but I was too scared to look at him back. I didn’t even notice the drool that ceased from his mouth onto my thudding chest.
Without thinking I met his gaze, and I wasn’t scared anymore. I could see myself through his eyes, like watching a video. I was watching and it seemed like all this happened before. Like today, I was walking to the back yard and turned the corner to see nothing. I saw myself walk to the mess and I someone was walking behind me. He came from no were, but there he was, a tall dark figure. His face was blurry and as he came closer I could tell that I knew he was there and I froze. He put both his hands around my mouth and lifted me off the ground. My legs kicked to be free, but soon it was all over and I laid there, dead. I looked away from the dogs gaze and closed my eyes confused. When I opened them the dog was gone. The mess was gone, as if all this never happened. What the hell! I was yelling inside my head. I got up and sat down to think. Was all of this a sign? I didn’t believe in anything, but after seeing my death I would believe anything at this point. Was this real? Did all of it really happen? Was I really going to die? I tried to forget walking inside to sit and think. Abruptly there was a loud thud coming from outside. Oh my gosh! Was the dog back? Without thinking I ran outside to see. There was no dog, but there was a branch laying were I stood. Someone climbed the tree to get into my yard and the branch must of broke. This was not good. I froze as hands clasped around my mouth and I was lifted off the ground, my legs kicking uncontrollably. I was unable to scream, or breath, as if an ice cube was lodged in my throat. All the clips of what happened earlier was replaying as I lost my breath. I wasn’t breathing! Soon everything got dark and the last clip I saw, was of the big black dog standing over me. And then it was all over. Thanks for reading and feel free to leave comments good or bad... And to whoever that didn't like it I'm sorry for wasting ur time... And if i misspelled something or used any words wrong again I'm sorry...
