Odd title, yes? Yes. Well this was actually a project my class had to do one year. We had to write a short story that included Australian Slang, a specific location, and a specific person. My Place: Hospital. My Person: Keith Urban. I didn't even know who Keith Urban was then! I got a good grade on this -nods- And I'll highlight the slang words for you guys but I'm too lazy to translate them. (btw, the teacher gave us a list of words. So if a true Australian reads this and sees something utterly wrong. I'm sorry.) _____________________________________________________________________
Jeff looked around his hospital room, his legs still throbbing from his surgery. He watched as his olds walked in and smiled. “Hey Mum, Dad,” he said in a happy tone of voice with the slightest sound of a sigh. He shifted his feet so that they held down the end of his blankets, knowing his mother would try to lift up the blankets to fiddle with his bandages.
“Hey sweetie. How are you feeling? How are your legs doing?” Mum said with a worried tone as she lifted up the blankets without a problem and started messing with the bandages. Jeff let out sigh quiet enough to get a sympathetic look from his father but one that his mother couldn’t hear. “May came with us,” she mentioned absently, still fiddling with the bandages. “Now why did they put so many on?”
Jeff sat up quickly and pulled his legs away from her. He looked at the door with a wide smile on his face. “She did?! Where is she? This is ace!” Jeff exclaimed.
May walked in and smiled. She held a jelly cup in one hand and a prezzie in the other. May sat down on the edge of Jeff’s bed and kissed his cheek as she placed the prezzie in his lap. Jeff wrapped his arms around her and pulled her all the way on the bed, scooting over to give her some room. May smiled. “G’day love. How are you? You look absolutely zonked. You haven’t been getting any zeds, have you?”
He smiled and kissed her cheek. “No worries sheila. Just a bit grotty. How’ve you been?” He said kindly.
“I’ve been ace. Open your prezzie. You’re gonna love I,” May said. Jeff smiled and opened it and pulled out two Keith Urban concert tickets. “This is ace May! Keith Urban is my favorite muso! You certainly are crash hot.” Jeff smiled and gave May a large hug. “Ta love.”
“I’ve got to bail Jeff. I have to get to work. I’ll come back as soon as possible,” May said as she got up and walked to the door.
“We’ve got to go too sweetie. We’ll come back soon,” Mum said.
“Hoo-Roo Mum, Dad, May,” Jeff replied. He watched them leave and leaned back in his bed, away with the pixies. _____________________________________________________________________
Yeah.. it probably has spelling and grammar errors but I just don't care right now. I'm tired from not sleeping and this isn't my greatest work anyways.
